I find people who post the same negative garbage over and over about how terrible everything is despicable. If they have nothing to say that is positive than why even bother posting here. Those sort of posts account for the fact that a lot of good posters dont want to post here anymore because of the negativity.

I mean at the time. Their were only two receiver available and it was a sellers market. I liked Emannuelle Sanders but he was also coming off an injury. So maybe they saw Sanu as a safer bet.

It didn’t work out but a second round pick won’t set our franchise back for years or anything.

Surprised by the decision BUT I completely understand it. BB is not going to compound the mistake of trading away a 2nd rounder for a mediocre talent by paying him the following year way above what his value to the team is (If he is not bound by contract). At a 6million dollar hit, he simply does not provide value to the team. In TC on video released he looked slow and did not seem able to create separation.
Actually this also sends a message to the rest of the team, no matter what your name is and where you were drafted, if you do not perform at an expected level and provide value that is expected you will be let go.

BB has done this entire time at NE. He will not hold onto "names" if they don't provide value. I erroneously thought that his veteran experience was important to an overall young WR group (except JE), but it is still all about performance.

Even if it was at Tom's insistence, it's not like they weren't desperate because of the lack of investment at the position (and that was Belichick's decision not to spend draft picks on WRs).

When Sanu joined the team, our receivers were broken-rib Edelman, UDFA Jakobi Myers, and Phillip Dorsett who just disappears wherever he goes.

How can you run a team with that? The Patriots were desperate.

What gets lost with all this is that the 49ers were in competition with the Pats to obtain Sanu before they settled on Sanders.

The other thing to keep in mind is that I think everyone agreed at that point that the team needed reinforcements at WR. So some pick of value was going to be exchanged either way. Getting Sanu with an additional year for a second looked to me like a better deal than giving up a 3rd and 4th for Sanders + 5th. Especially since he was coming off major injury and his contract was expiring.

Now if someone wants to claim that they should have just stood pat and not tried to fix their offensive woes while still being unbeaten then I don't know what to say.

It didn't work out at all and was a regrettable move especially because they only got 1 real game out of him before he suffered that ankle injury that required offseason surgery. But that is how it goes sometimes.

I thought Bill overpaid for Sanu at the time, but not horribly so. In context they were desperate for a WR in a closing window for the greatest QB ever. Sanu got hurt. Sometimes these things happen.

Maybe guaranteeing Antonio Brown 8 million was worse. He had given the finger to two organizations and been a mental case for a couple of years. They were forced to cut D. Thomas who would have provided Sanu type help. The Brown signing forced the Sanu trade.

I agree with your analysis of Brady's downside. One takes the good - of which there was a great deal -with the bad, of course. (And, let's be honest, everywhere I've worked, when somebody leaves, it's awfully convenient and ignoble but gratifying to blame him for the organization's shortrcomeings even before he's fully out the door.) In some cases, of course, as for example with Sanu, the criticism is on the money.

Sanu is Sanu... he's always been average/good. He's big, mobile, strong, has solid hands and not that fast... he's Jakobi Meyers with more experience. Keep in mind Meyers was an UDFA.

BB was showing reverence to his star QB and trying to keep him happy after AB became a dumpster fire.

Don't tell me BB didn't do everything he could to give Tom what he wanted; AB, Sanu, #1 pick WR... it's garbage.

Amazing that some people can spin this against Brady. Like Brady kicked open Bill's office door and demanded Mohammed Sanu of all people. Bill knew the pass catching group bottomed out and he overpaid hoping for a spark plug. Bill almost never gets fleeced in a trade but this one was out of desperation due to the fact that the Gordon experiment failed, AB somewhat predictably, went crazy, and we relied on an injured rookie and a badly beaten Edelman. Combine that with the fact that Bill refused to address the tight end position the cupboard was completely bare.

Add to this it was the first time in a while the Pats were picking in the middle of the round, so its not like before when they traded away a pick that was in the 60-64 range, they ended up trading pick #47!

Sanders would have been better, I do put some stock into Denver not wanting to trade him to NE. But if the big issue last year was that he got hurt, why are they cutting him now? *aside from his 6.5 million salary?

Even if that were true that they tried to trade for him in the past the Broncos were generally playoff contenders. It wasn't until last year when they pulled the plug on the Flacco experiment after he had a neck injury about the same time he questioned the play calling and went with Drew Lock that they were looking forward. If Elway truly turned down a late second rounder for a late third rounder and a fifth while heading into a rebuild he is an idiot.
