Under the Radar Wide Receiver Jauan Jennings

Ivan, i'm not dying on the "We Must Sign Tee Higgins Hill" ... just pointing out that big time receivers do in fact get 30m a year... and It will not shock me if he does get that much, or at least very close to it, this year...

I agree that the superstars get 30+, and if it were Lamb, Jefferson Chase I would happily pay them. My point is that you only have 3 of those players and your QB on your roster, so you save those roster spots for your true superstars. Gonzalez will be one of those guys, as he’s an All Pro CB, so they should reserve the 30 million plus spots to pay true superstar players. Higgins is a really good player, he’s just not in that class.

You're not going to be able to sign too many high impact free agents with this attitude. I've seen your posts across threads and you're looking at "overpaying" as a roster-wide concept but each free agent is a one-off. You're correct that if you just overpay across the whole roster you'll eventually be mired in mediocrity. But each individual free agent will have their own market. Teams who are making up for lost value at other positions and/or have a specific weakness they need addressed will be willing to overpay for a player in an isolated situation. So if you want to land any of the higher impact free agents you're going to need to step up to the plate at that contract level. The key is to be selective and only do it on a limited basis where it makes sense.

IMO, I'd limit myself to paying top of the market prices for two situations:

1) when the player is worth it, obviously
2) isolated cases where having a higher end (even if not true tier 1) player at a spot has a positive effect on the rest of the roster

I believe Higgins would fall into #2 category there. Is he a true top tier #1 receiver? Probably not. But I believe he's GOOD ENOUGH that he will add a respectable top threat so the #2s can be the #2s and the #3s be the #3s and so on. It will help keep coverages more honest which can help reduce pressure on the OL because defenses can't be as free up front and it make the reads easier for Maye and help his development. Right now we lack any semblance of a #1 WR but even a lower end #1 WR would have a positive pervasive impact on the development of the rest of the offensive unit.

Because of how much teams prioritize the WR unit now, even a player of Higgins' caliber is rare to hit the open market without age or injury concerns. In the rare event they ever do come available, it's usually via trade for significant draft capital. IMO it would be worth it because of how it jump starts the development of the rest of the offense.

I have to head out so this will be short. My real point is that you can only afford 3 30+ plus guys and your QB, so only use it for truly dominant players Higgins is good, but he never faces double coverage and can still only manage 76 receptions a season. I would rather continue to draft them high.

No thanks to the same old Patriots offense. The offenses, schemes and how the NFL officiates games all have evolved and the Pats offense needs to as well. It has been merely pedestrian at best since TB12 walked out that door. This team needs to move forward with a new identity and get out of the shadow of Bill, Tom and a dynasty and forge a new path with a new identity. I don't want more of Josh McD's offenses and trying to recreate the past. Brady made that system work, he was the constant through the dynasty and he aint walking back through that door.
You can't evaluate an offense with MJ at the helm. Even Cam was put in a position to win, but he couldn't do it.

The Patriots offense was the Brady offense geared towards brady skills set.. the offense if Josh came back would be totally different and based on what Drake can do and hos athletic abilities. Josh will involve the 3rd down back.. the slot WR. It won't be dink and dunk.. you can take deep shots own field, utilizing the middle of the field. Good offenses utilize the middle of the field to take advantage of LBs and Safeties in coverage. Again this is if Josh returned. Brady's retired so no reason to run the brady offense. Run the Drake offense.

I have no faith in Josh without Brady....his record speaks for itself.

He'd have a real QB in NE. None of those QBs he had without brady are on the level of Drake on a good day.
I wish I could share in your optimism and if he does come back I hope your right.

Kinda like BB without Brady.

Kinda like BB without Brady.
I agree to that statement as well, I give Brady the most credit for the success over the last 20 years. In BB own words...players win games and TB12 was nothing but a winner.

Speak for yourself.

Speak for yourself.

Be prepared to be disappointed. I'm gonna be the guy sitting here saying I told you so.

And stop throwing rocks at me.

I vet why you say you won't want the dink and dunk offense back.. I don't want that either. The personnel fit at QB is better for Josh if he does return. I really don't hear if any other names that really impress me all that much.
