Honestly I am glad about the receivers for this game

I don’t think this offense is good enough to go on the road this year and win a playoff game if somehow the ravens where to get the top seed.

This team has failed to develop receivers for so many years it’s almost comical. The last time a non-free agent receiver actually played well through his rookie contract was Deion Branch. Remember, even Edelman was going to walk in 2013 for peanuts, having never developed under Brady because Welker got all the reps.

So I am glad Brady will be FORCED to use Meyers and Harry, two of the more promising rookie receivers we’ve had in a while. Maybe it’s going to take a loss, some miscommunication, a couple of interceptions, but Brady needs to start developing younger players or the team will continue to roll with a bunch of veteran scratch tickets every year and a prayer that Edelman doesn’t regress (though he should have by now based on his age.). It had been years of band aids and reliance on superstars to cover up a weak WR development system between Brady and talented young WRs who need actual experience to improve.

I did not feel this way in 2013 about Thompkins and Dobson, though the team did still manage to be one of the top scoring offenses in the league. But I am excited that finally Brady will be forced to trust the younger guys. Sanu is a good player, but giving up a second round pick for him shows the level of desperation this team has gotten at WR. Let me reiterate that in an alternate universe, Edelman signs with the Giants in 2013 and we never knew what he could have become, despite four years of practicing with Brady.

This could be an a embarrassing face-plant on offense and loss. It could also finally be the game where the offense forges an identity. It’s up to Harry and Meyers, but equally, it is up to Brady and McDaniels.

How do you develop them when Harry was injured up until a week ago and Meyers has been banged up?
This is not up to Brady.

I know! You made a similar point that I quoted too and everything got jumbled
Maybe you hit quote multiple times instead of reply? I never hit quote, just reply. Damn if I know.

That's a gross distortion of his point. All he's saying is that when a starter is replaced by an unknown backup, sometimes you learn that the backup is better than you thought. It will certainly be interesting to watch Harry and Meyers, although any sane person would prefer to have the starters healthy.

It's not a distortion of his point, but thanks for posting. You might want to read the whole thread before replying next time, though.

Yep, it is. That seems excessive guys! Jeez. Anyway, if anyone wants to know I was calling myself a m!ron.

The censorship's been ridiculous for a while now.

Then how can you explain overlooking Edelman’s receiving talent from 2009-12?

You are making it sound like he only was behind Welker because Brady didn't trust him enough. No, was behind him because Welker was the best slot receiver in the history of the NFL right in his prime during those years.

Add in that he was often dealing with an injury in his first 3-4 years and the offense was rolling with Welker, Gronk and Hernandez in front of him and there should be not much surprise about it.

What is confusing to me is why you'd bring up Edelman stepping up in 2013 (after 4 years in the offense) in an argument that involves rookies in 2019. Do you seriously believe Edelman would have turned in his rookie season into what he was in 2013 if they had just given him the snaps ?

I would completely disagree with that. What his today is not something that was in him the entire time and needed to be "unlocked". He grinded away while the others were in the spotlight and slowly transformed himself into that player.

Yeah, obviously his physical attributes made that possible but comparing the RAW player he was in 2009 with the more polished one who finally caught on in 2013 is not fair because its no contest.

Never should have let Almendola go.

Stupid. He knew the offense and had Bradys utmost trust.

I'm on your side, man. Forcing Brady to get on the same page as different receivers will pay dividends later.

I'd be more inclined to agree with the OP if Dolphin were on the menu this week. I am interested to see what happens when Brady looks Meyers way more often. He has beat his man convincingly on several occasions where Brady didn't look his way, either due to play design, lack of time for Brady to go through his progressions, or maybe lack of trust, due to inconsistent reads on his part. He's a smart route runner, and zone defenses can be easier to read than man leverage, so maybe he shows up this week. Still, I'd rather have Sanu out there today.

Frankly, I'm more interested in seeing what happens with the running game and use of backs in the passing game. Having Wynn back will help, as he's so much more mobile than Newhouse and is going to be way more effective in the screen game and more likely to be able to maintain leverage on the speedy Dallas's defenders in the run game. He's also likely to give Brady more time to go through his progressions, which should help getting more receivers involved in the passing game, regardless of who is out there.

I agree Im so glad that Brady is forced to use Harry and Meyers, I feel like on any other team Meyers would be damn near a pro bowler hell look at Hollister in Seattle, especially Harry since we spent a first on him.

I hate how we play scared with new guys sometimes any other team will throw a rook to the wolves and the rook would blossom as a lot of rooks are this season but we bubble wrap here and there's truth to what I'm saying because even Brady admitted a year or 2 ago that he's not as careless with the football as he was as in years past but years past Brady is better then Brady now.

Remember when there was a time when you could throw anybody out there in terms of a WR and Brady would make them look like a pro bowler I think Brady has to go back to his old ways and stop thinking overly veteran with the game I think that's what's really holding this offense back, just throw the ball out to jungle and see who the wolves are.

I’m not a bit glad. This is what happens when you release both brown and Gordon

Maybe this would make sense if Brady trusted or threw to rookies. Reality is he will just throw to Watson, white and Edelman.

Honestly this game has loss written all over it.

I would love to see Harry and Meyers involved in the offense more. However, I wouldn't be surprised if we run the ball mostly and do a lot of running back screens and stuff. I expect White and Burkhead to be heavily involved. Maybe even Bolden too since he's a pretty good pass catcher. How does Dallas do defending running backs out of the backfield? With Vander Esch hurt, we should probably take advantage of that .

The defense is going to have to play all world for us to win this. I don’t envision scoring over 20 but will be glad to be wrong

I’m not a bit glad. This is what happens when you release both brown and Gordon
Better now than to use both of them all season and have them suspended in December.

Here are the targets. You may be right, but I'm not doing the math.

Thanks. The interesting and most relevant number from this data to me is the catch percentage as a number of targets. That breaks down as the following:

Edelman: 68%
White: 77%
Dorsett: 62%
Gordon: 56%
Meyers: 79%
Sanu: 61%

So what I see there, for example with Meyers, is not someone who is running the wrong routes or quitting on routes, but catching more passes thrown his way than anyone else on the team. Of course, when he did run a route incorrectly last week, Brady made sure everyone on the field and watching at home knew it.
