July 5, 2026, homer thoughts:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the NFL pundits who continue to project the Patriots to suck hind tit, as they say in the vernacular, whether projecting that Josh Allen is the next big thing just eight or nine years late, that Patrick Mahomes will resume his fore-ordained march to a million super bowl rings, that Seattle will repeat, that the Rams will rise up to their deserved status, or whatever.
Every time I read about Bo Nix not being there to destroy the Pats (as the Prophecy foretold) or about how the Pats never beat anybody, or how utterly the Seahawks destroyed us, a pundit gets his wings and one more chunk of fans gets to talk themselves into categorizing the Pats as a minor threat.
My thought is I've seen this before with Brady and the 2001 and 2003 teams... they were still saying we "got lucky" all the time... how the teams we beat were actually better than us (sort of an oxymoron, same as when some of our fans coudn't stop saying we were really better than the Gintz)... etc. Finally, in 2004, AFTER winning 3 out of 4, they finally admitted we had "really" won anything. Then BB-TFB came back a decade later and started a second dynasty -- with Super Bowl appearances during the "wilderness years," mind you.
They claimed we only whipped their butts because of air pressure and walkthroughs. They further compounded the idea of "Parity" with confiscated draft picks until it simply became parody. They made us Jonathan E in Rollerball, basically.
And they never figured out that denying this franchise its due just feeds it fuel.
Slander this team and trump up charges of cheating.
Ignore what they do achieve and state your wish -- the Pats' demise -- as fact.
As always, you'll be right sometimes. Just less often than with any other franchise in the history of the game.
You all know, in your heart of hearts, when Chuck Norris called it a day, he checked under the bed for the New England Patriots.
Christmas is over, pundits. Count NE out at your own risk.
So I want to thank every writer covering the NFL who has the league's 2nd best team (by results) 15th in the power rankings. Oh, by all means sound off about a guy who couldn't keep his Chiefs over .500, then got hurt, as if tearing his ACL will somehow have a salutary effect on his poor play, because Tom Brady had the same injury (following an undefeated regular season (and famously, an 18-1 year.) )
I want to thank all talking heads that just assume that our AFCE understudies in Buffalo are the rightful owners of the division, and that the Pats' ascendency is a fluke.
I want to thank everybody out there peddling the certainty that just because the Patriots logo is scary, doesn't mean the team is.
Give it up for every sportswriter who ignored or downplayed upgrades to the line and receiving corps, a still-improving phenomenal quarterback, perhaps the best secondary in the league or failing that, at LEAST an elite secondary which benefitted from upgrades as well.
THANK YOU for ignoring this team.
I look forward to your stories on how nobody could have predicted what the Patriots became in 2026.
