I wasn't a huge fan of OT in the 1st pre-draft, thought Edge was the more pressing need.I voted Raridon, but only because of his apparent comfort and production in the preseason and practices.
It's skewed though, because he's not close to understanding the nuances of what that TE role can be in JMD system, and Jacas could easily get a sub-role as a pass-rushing guy without understanding the full scheme and run option duties. Just pin his ears back and use his natural physical tools to cause havoc. That might work a few times per game right now, and that might be what we need.
On Lomu - I wasn't a fan of the pick day 1. Not what we needed most as a (still) rebuilding team. We all knew we needed a starting caliber DE. Not that OT wasn't on the list, but worst of the top group who was notable as being young and lacking toughness - was not a great value in 1st round IMO. I get that Jacas should become a starting EDGE and no one expected the weird sugery/hold out thing. Let's hope he catches on quickly. A rotation of Jones, Ponder, Jacas (and I'm still hoping Swinson breaks out too) works enough.
Something they may do more of is putting Williams on the end. Barmore & Durden (Taylor/Farmer) inside could allow Milt to work as an End sometimes - would be cool to see.
However, when you look at the Edges we could have taken in the first (Parker, Thomas.....etc), are any of them better than Jacas?
I don't think the value was there at Edge, thus the OT.
