Patriots releasing Bodine..

I was not aware the Patriots are so very intent on making Jack Easterby happy these days.

Belichick has never been afraid to trade with any team if the compensation is right for him. It appeared to be right for him.

Correct. It was because of the 6th round pick they were getting in return and the fact that the secondary is stacked. Not just because Easterby wanted Crossen as the poster related as the reason for the transaction..

"Crossen was gone because the Texans wanted him. Crossen is supposedly very religious, so I guess Easterby wanted him?"

.

Ross ventrone anyone?

I attempted to read a 83 post 2 Bills Drive thread about Bodine being cut but only made it through the first page.
After the tenth time a poster mentioned that the trade only happened so Pats could get info about the Bills I realized they are not living in the real world.

Maybe, I don't know about that part. Crossen was an ST guy in my eyes.

I think Crossen for a sixth rounder was a fair trade for both sides. Isn't he about what you get in the 6th round?

What gave the trade value was that BB was going to lose Crossen or Gunner or someone else he wanted and get nothing in return. That was the value.

Good point. They are stacked there too - - to the extent that some of us (waving my hand) thought Ebner was in some danger this pre-season.

Other coaches might have cut someone else. If Bodine is claimed or signs elsewhere, we are hurt more severely than if someone had to come in at center for part of the game. My guess is that Mason or Thuney could have been the emergency center.

Belichick risks losing Bodine; pure and simple.

I wonder how many other HCs would bother to make such a move or just gamble that they'll be okay for one week without a familiar backup.

C Luke Bowanko 28, cut by the Lions, is out there. He was a starter for the Jaguars. I seem to remember that the Patriots had him in for a visit in the last couple of years.

Hopefully Bodine spends a lot of time learning the system over the next few weeks with Andrews...they both have a lot of free time now :(

Bodine is a vested vet so being claimed is not a possibility. However, Pats gave up a 6th for him, so it’s logical to think other teams might have been interested in him before he was traded here. It’s very possible that he signs elsewhere if the option presents itself to him.

There’s a possibility the Pats dress 8 OL on Sunday especially if LaCosse is out and an OL needs to take some reps as a TE. Otherwise, I expect them to dress 7 with Ferentz being one of them..

Saw somewhere that Bodine did not have to clear waivers, so no risk of him being claimed if that’s true. If it’s a short term layoff he could have been told he’d be called back on Monday, making it less likely he’d sign elsewhere. Also saw that because he was cut so late in the week that he still gets the game check, so he may not lose any pay as a result of this maneuver.

All I can think of when I hear this name is Jethro Bodine from the Beverly Hill Billies...

Reading the Bills forum is comical. They really think Bodine was brought in for intel on how the Bills offense operates. Will be looking forward to how they react if Bodine is brought back after week 1.
