NFL News OT: Dolphins Releasing Tua Tagovailoa

Share the latest NFL news from around the league here.
A little over 56 million. For this year. Another 34 million for next year
They already had the #2 most dead money in the league, only behind... surprise... the Jets. Now they will presumably be #1 and have little to no cap space.

Why would Tua retire and take nothing when he can sit tight, get released and collect @$100M?
"Oh no Mr Ross, please keep your money"
The guaranteed money is guaranteed. It doesn't matter if he retires or not unless there is a clause in the contract stating otherwise.

It's an intentional tank, again.
Stephen Ross is making a mockery of the league for what, the 4th or 5th time, and no one seems to give a ****.

And I, for one, hope it works out for him every bit as well as his previous tanking has

At least the Jete got draft picks for their trouble.
Miami's gotten one whole 7th round pick out of MInkah Fitzpatrick, Tua Tagavailoa and Tyreek Hill.

That was my question. So if he retires after they cut him they are off the hook? I don’t know how these modern contracts are structured. What if nobody picks him up, for instance? Woukd they not have to pay him? That woukd be like forced retirement. I guess he could be third backup and just make bank. My question was more theoretical about contract structure

Somewhere in NOLA Mickey Loomis is celebrating being dethroned as the master of cap disaster

It sure smells like it.

- Make a weird GM hire
- Make an even weirder HC hire seemingly based on being buddies with the GM
- Dump the QB for nothing and take a massive dead cap hit, hamstringing the new GM/HC's financial ability to do anything with the roster
- Team will suck ass even worse than prior year and they will end up at bottom of league, right where Ross wants them
- Hooray! You now can fire the GM and HC you never wanted anyway and draft Arch Manning, and get your pick of any GM and HC you want

They are 100% on the hook for the contract regardless, minus any offset

I have not listened to NFL Network once in the past year, wtf is wrong with them. Manti Teo is a goddamn moron, why the hell is he on their panel. Jason McCourty was a great studio analyst, and they replace him with this idiot. I listened for 2 minutes and turned it off.

Stephen Ross needs to be docked draft picks.

This is far from the first time he's openly tanked a season - one of those lawsuits is still ongoing, btw.

Agree completely. Allowing this **** to go on is disgraceful.

That March for Arch battle with the Jete is gonna be riveting.
Have you watched ForeHead III..............
He blows

Apparently the NFLNetwork operates on the same model as my hometown fire department, volunteers only. But who could blame them? It's not like they have any money.

Reflecting back on that it was the reason there were so many fires, one of the volunteers was setting them. And his real occupation( I **** you not) was the cook at a local restaurant.

And doing it while tanking has become a hot subject thanks to the NBA. The over/under on Dolphins' wins may be in negative numbers for this season

What their dead cap hit for releasing Him??
And they just gave him an extension during the season.

This is abject stupidity,

OR

An attempt to tank and get the #1 overall pick.

But only the Pats get docked 1st round picks, and the offense can be made up out of whole cloth.

2 games where we can let Maye play the 1st 2 series and then sit out.
Poor Jaylen Waddle...what a waste of a career. I would ask if they intend on moving him. This Miami Rebuild is going to take a very long time.
