You are arguing with the wrong person. I already said that I don't think Hogan was supposed to chip the other DB. The only thing I wanted to point out is that there was a window where it would not have been OPI like you initially suggested.

Speaking of - on the 61 yd TD pass to seal it. Was it me, or was there a Patriots defender being blocked on the far side, about 10 yards downfield before the ball was in the air?

I've not been a fan of Davis'. When he's been on the field, teams are running and picking up big chunks.

With Flowers in the protocol we will most probably see next Sunday what it is that is holding up Rivers from being active. My assumption is that he is similarly weak against the run / holding the edge but that is just a wild guess.

There was another play where it looked like he went too far outside to set the edge freeing up an inside cut lane for the rb. They ended up getting close to 20 yards. To me it looks like he isn’t really comfortable with what he’s being asked to do.

There was a tweet from Loyko I scrolled over in the morning that also suggested that Clayborn was not setting the edge properly and overrunning it a few times. The DL still has a lot of things to work on.

There was a tweet from Loyko I scrolled over in the morning that also suggested that Clayborn was not setting the edge properly and overrunning it a few times. The DL still has a lot of things to work on.

This is correct. IIRC, he was responsible for over pursuing on 3 separate occasions. Those gave Bortles some wide open running lanes.

Guess, what? Football is one big gray area. Even Belichick himself has said he doesn't know everything that goes on in a NFL game, as far as deciphering scheme or strategy. That shouldn't prevent any of us amateur fans, including YOU, from speculating or analyzing or judging what should or should not have happened. Otherwise what's the point of having a football forum?

One more time, here's a closeup, a still. Hogan knows exactly what the play is- and right here, he's literally brushing by the safety that's going to tackle Dorsett. For you to tell me he absolutely cannot chip or bump into that safety is ridiculous. We run picks and commit incidental contact all the time. Sometimes we get flagged, sometimes not.

We expect that from Clayborn considering the player he is. I've pointed on Davis' lack of impact since last week & it looks like others are seeing the same, the more snaps he gets. He's been beat outside, inside & blocked by a TE on a few occasions.

Next week it might be better to wait until the A22 comes out before starting these. Thread is already kinda a sh it show & will be 10 pages by the time it comes out.

So why is Davis active over him then ? From the handful snaps in preseason Rivers looked at least as good as Davis as a pass rusher.

And again, not that it was the reason for the huge gain, Davis was clearly held (see attached photo where you can see the offensive player's hold is outside the chest area). Davis even got an arm outside the block but was still yanked back inside. This normally generates a flag but on this play - nothing. When an offensive blocker is able to turn the defender left and right like this with his grip on the outside of the jersey while that defender is trying to move laterally in the other direction, it is usually called holding.

From what I saw, he was getting open more often than not, and that was against Bouye, mind you. That's one of the upsides to this game- the Dorsett/Brady connection is scorching red hot- 12 for 14.

The other upside was Sony's blazing speed- definitely has homerun speed. We saw glimpses of it. I wouldn't be too hard on our OL. The Jags have one of the best DL in the NFL.

Lots of things in this game that make me want to bang my head against the wall, but also several things (like the two you mentioned) that are very positive and cause for excitement. Definitely looking forward to seeing more of Sony as he gets more reps and familiarity with Brady and the offense.

Going through the game on Gamepass right now..


Blocks are set up beautifully for Burkhead to take it deep (even Dorsett is in place for an eventual block downfield) but he trips. The other thing in this clip to look at is how inept Trent Brown sometimes looks in the run game. Even if Burkhead doesn't trip there is a chance that #83 takes him down because Brown simply misses his block and then roams around like a zombie in the Walking Dead.

There were enough plays to be made with sharper execution.

Assuming Dorsett executes this block this play boils down to a 1v1 between Burkhead and the safety for a TD.

Will have to wait for the 22 but it almost looks like Rex tripped over Dev who got blown up by Ramsey.

It was that awkward gray area where Gilmore initiated contact in the legal zone but then the WR blocked him. WR gets the benefit of the doubt there since in theory he's just trying to fight through a jam. Seems like dumb luck more than anything that he pushed Gilmore all the way back into J-Mac.

I think the thread's fine. Most of the content is quality discussion. I doubt anyone is going to be annoyed by the discussion taking place for the first 5-7 pages because it's not based on All-22 film or something.
