Roberts indeed looked good from day 1.
Another hated player here that quietly has a solid camp and looks much stronger is (dare I say it? oh, Captain, please forgive me etc) - Ferentz. iirc he has no PS eligibility anymore so i wonder if he has a chance although Karras is still ahead of him @ C rotating at times with 1sts. If nothing else he's a candidate for hidden roster..
Maybe the simplified defense is working for him. The rocket scientist may have confused him sometimes. It's why he looked lost at times in his assignments. At least I hope that was the reason.

Who ever said Berrios WAS a lock to make this team? I always thought he was 75/25 to not make it. Granted, if another receiver goes on IR or gets hurt then he'll make it because of attrition. We still need a punt returner. Not sure I want Chung dealing with it.

He wasn't the only guy who "looked lost at times". Gilmore to start the season, e.g.

Roberts' situation may have been exacerbated by the fact that he' only played 272 NFL regular season snaps before last year, and was suddenly being asked to master assignments that he'd never had before.

Chung would be safer than Cy Jones.

Like Hightower in 2013.

I figured Cheerios and Mac had decent shots as they were both PRs, could show up on STs and could play the slot with some level of competence once JE returned.

Looks like Mac has leg up

Chung is a fair catcher. Anyone not named Edelman has a chance to win it at least for four weeks. Berrios and McCarron are the only constants there. Burkhead is seeing some PR action lately but until someone else steps up as serious big RB option its not ideal either. Patterson would be ideal but as BB says - its a different business. He tried some but of little use so far..

Pats perfect scenario of Cyrus taking over punting and slot CB unfortunately didn't pan out..

I like what I've been reading too, but let's let him play a few real games first, eh?

He has played in some real games. Sign the guy.

from Callahan:

  • Speaking of Dorsett, he also saved two passes over the middle that initially appeared well-defended: first cutting in front of Jason McCourty and later securing a low throw with Eric Rowe draped all over his back. When he managed a clean release Thursday, Dorsett typically found success.
  • Trailing in coverage, backup safety Damarius Travis knocked the ball away from Gronkowski after the tight end had secured a seam-route reception in 11-on-11 work.

  • McCarron worked extensively with the first-team offense, even in occasional two-receiver sets with Chris Hogan. There was some good (sharp routes, a couple Brady targets) and bad (one drop and getting yelled at by Brady on a separate play), just as you'd expect from a young player. For now, McCarron holds as high-quality an opportunity he could've asked for at the start of camp, considering the injured wideouts around him and the edge he appears to have over fellow youngster Braxton Berrios.

Chung is a fair catcher because he knows his limitations. It's the minimal solution, but it's safe, if there are no other realistic options that can reasonably be squeezed under the 53-man limit.
