He’s got this season to show that he’s not just athletically gifted but also smart/mature enough to be coachable and to apply his position knowledge to the role carved out for him.
“Worlds dumbest” can turn into “holy cow” if he gets it. Think of something you’re really good at, and that you were the best at, all through school, college, and at the start of a professional career. You’ve been validated your whole life. Then you go to Corporation Inc. and they show you a bunch of meaningless corporate strategic plans every week. And they tell you all about how they want to fit your “particular set of skills” into the plan.
But it looks to you like “do really generic work well for 3 weeks a month, then maybe 1 week a month you can do something you can sink your teeth into.”
Some people will get it, adjust, and thrive. Others will try and wash out. They’ll tell themselves they’d rather be personally significant in some smaller company.
In football it’s assumed that you’ll adjust to the new employer, but actually doing it might take time.
