What needs to change?

1) Blaming the best offense in the NFL just doesn't cut it.

2) Patricia and the other coaches can work with the front 7. Wise is looking really good. Guy is looking good. Hightower is back. They may need some time, but as in every other year, the front 7 will improve as the year continues. There are a lot of players new to the patriots. For example, Marsh is a good addition.

3) The open question is how to get some average play from a highly played secondary, given that all the players are coming back from last years, except one supposedly top player.

I would suggest doing what top leaders sometimes do. Belichick should get his hands dirty and personally spend a lot of time with the secondary. This is back to basics time. And yes, Belichick should review defensive game plans with Patricia. Whatever this 3 safety system is supposed to do, it doesn't work.

The Offense isn't the reason for losing. But was I the only one screaming at the TV for them to hurry it up? You gotta know your D is awful.

The way this defense is playing...the Pats are an 8-8 team.......They are going to get crushed by teams with a good O and just a halfway decent D..... BB & the D coaches have a lot of work to do.......

The defense will improve. It is almost statistically impossible not to improve. If the defensive coaches do what they do every year (an ordinary season for them), then we will be in the playoffs, likely with a division crown (as is our die).

I refuse to believe right now this defense is worse than the abominations in 2005 and 2011. This defense is not supposed to be lousy. The 2011 defense was.

The D needs to go from absolute garbage worst in the league to mediocre....this O with Brady and a middling D wins 12 easy and books a spot in AFC title game.. .no one thought the D would be historically bad... This is comically bad defense..playing this way there's no reason to think Miami, buffalo and nyj don't put up at least 24 on this garbage D...even more concerning they lost at home to a qb who was sucking and Pats were +2 turnovers, let's not forget w/o those tos add 10 or 14 more to Car score

Whatever BB envisioned doing with Gilmore should be revised immediately. I don't know if that is the reason for playing this 3 safety look at the expense o a linebacker or not, but against mobile QBs, it has failed miserably. BB's whole philosophy on defense is avoiding the big plays and I have seen more big plays in this four games than I saw over his entire time here.

BB has played nickel base for a number of years.

That's what I don't understand. Will it get better? Yes. Not by much though unless we will be more of an attacking defense and they will excel at that. People are drinking the kool-aid.

Got in sync because they’ve had a good offense but just came together cause they were due? Or got in sync because they were up against a defense that has absolutely sucked? I’ll go with option B, Carolinas offense was really bad coming into this game for a reason, cause they were bad and missing their best weapon in Olson. They magically didn’t sync and didn’t come together, let’s be real they went up a laughable joke of a defense today and it clearly worked out for them.
