Butler takes on two blockers & still gets some push
Hightower bullrushes the RT almost into Rivers
Flowers twists in for the sack

That’s a heck of a 4 man rush. We need a few of those Sunday.

Butler is really improving by the snap with his new more of every down DT role . getting more comfortable with added lbs. This was the biggest opportunity he got so far and did a very good job (against pretty weak OL to be fair).

He played more snaps (52) than M.Brown, Guy and Shelton combined (40)! It was partly game plan / game flow related but who would've guessed that..

Nice to see JC graded well despite some big catches allowed and a flag . but every route by certainly above average LAC receivers was closely and intensely contested.

KVN and Guy continuing their dependable unsung heroes march..

Nice to see Chung there as well as he did seem to bounce back nicely just in time for the biggest test of the year, Travis Kelce (still hope they scheme some serious help around him and try to take him away as completely as reasonably possible)

The only thing a bit negative about the pass rush yesterday was Rivers escaped a few times, granted it didnt hurt us but in those cases the NE defense didnt have enough speed to get him. They cant let Mahomes escape the pocket like that next week, and he throws really well outside the pocket, maybe better than in it.

One thing that’s worth mentioning was Patterson - he may not be polished but the amount of respect teams have for him is crazy.

There’s one play where it really stands out and that was the catch that Jules made when he was taken out by the safety as well as the cover guy.

Patterson cleared out the whole area for Jules to make the play. Was great design from mcdaniels and execution.

This isn't an attempt to sell Brady short of excellence, more or less wondering something (pardon if I use the wrong terminology):

Why do teams employ C3 Zone coverage and what makes it so wild that Brady can diagnose the coverage? What makes it difficult to do what he does? It's absurd how effective he is against that style of defense - do other QBs have a hard time with it?

This coming from utter ignorance, as I want to appreciate his skill even more :)

PS: Sorry if this isn't the right thread, but I figured it could start some thread-centric discussion. Maybe if someone brings up a specific play in which Brady displayed his excellence to a T?

In this instance, Chargers employed C3 on defense because that is what their DC, Gus Bradley does. He was the DC in Seattle too, and they ran C3 there too. Bradley's C3 philosophy is to keep the system simple so players can play fast (i.e., not spending too much time on diagnosing- just play on instinct). He also went back to a 4-3 which helps players like Bosa play at their best.

But when you bring too simple a scheme against a crafty and cunning QB like Brady, that's really asking for it because Brady is so good at identifying what's coming and then freezing, moving or tricking players with his eyes or body language. So when you have players reacting on instinct, rather than diagnosing plays, you're going to have players biting on the wrong cues, too often.

I think we'll let him "escape" but only to his left, never to his right (if possible). He makes most of his plays running to his right.

The Patriots didn't need to spy Rivers. He's basically useless once he "escapes" the pocket, all of his escapes were throwaways. They won't play the same defense against Mahomes.
