Amendola insurance.

or just our backup 5th receiver in case Mitchell isn't available. He doesn't take up a roster spot on the 53.

It seems likely that Mitchell and/or McClellan are being moved to IR.

Ayers: 5093/182
4.69/40, 1.60/10yd ... 35 vert ... 123 long ... 4.35 shuttle ... 7.30 3-cone

Perhaps he plays faster than his testing numbers.
That appears to be the case. His highlights show interesting skills as he is effective on medium routes and goes over the middle with no fear. With the ball in his hands he runs jet and bubble screens and shows YAC capability. Some similarities to what Edelman does, but skills remind me more of Troy Brown. See PR at 3:47:

I suspect he is auditioning for PR on Thursday. It is either him or DA and I don't want to use DA as a PR. If BB agrees, I look for McClellin to IR or someone to be waived to activate him. I would then expect Dorsett not to be active, but with so many WRs could raise an interesting decision when he is ready.

Season ending IR? I don't know about that with Mitchell.

If they wanted to put someone on season ending IR they would have done it during cuts together with Edelman, Jones & co. The only reason to block a spot on the active roster with an injured person is so he can be put onto regular season IR where you can designated two to return. So there is absolutely no reason to assume season ending IR at all.

Is there a deadline to designate someone as the "IR to return"?

I don't think that these IR players need to be designated. There is simply a limit of returning two.

I don't question BB because his methods work, but this + his son being on the staff don't paint the best picture.

The thing is that putting Ferentz on the PS doesn't necessarily mean that the Pats hope to develop him for the 53-man. It may be that they simply felt they needed to have an OC to fill out the scout team and in wasn't worth the time to tryout another one, especially with the opener coming up three days early.

I know that you dont have to do it upfront anymore but at some point you have designate to them so they can actually return.

Why not? Bill got his start because of his dad. Steve seems to be well respected. Nepotism is only a bad thing if it prevents more worthy candidates from succeeding.

Mitchell is fully practicing.

And we couldn't trade him?
Unless they planned to try to bring him back
But BB said if you release a player your accepting they may not come back.
Yes we couldn't trade him. Or do you think BB was just lazy?
