Florio is absolutely pummelling Goodell's credibility on Deflategate

We had "the most trusted man in America" deliberately slanting a war. I'm not sure how that translates to things being worse now.

Like I just said, there were issues back then. Please let's not turn this into a PoFo thread. What has driven the creation of many news sources is distrust of older ones - things have unraveled. Recently, someone said 62% of Americans rely mainly on Facebook for their news. What ever the FB figure is, we have a trend of people listening to what they want to believe, even if it's questionable.

it really is....

It has been taken sure, but it can't be considered completely "gone" until the 4 th round of draft next April ?? occurs.

NFL politics is looking a lot like US politics. The deflated footballs a couple years ago were a myth. The NFL does not have facts to support it...they would have lost in court if the focus was simply about the ball inflation. Instead, the NFL gets their way from complacent fans, and people that are fine with their lies because they hate NE.

I don't want to write about politics, because I think arguing about them on the internet is one of the dumbest exercises one can partake in.

However, I agree with your post 100%. I think all the arguing about Deflategate I did with people (a lot of it online, so what does that say about me?) was a precursor to the discourse in the current political climate. Maybe Deflategate logic gave me some practice before 2016 came around. A lot of similarities.

My point is that the difference is one of amount/degree, not kind.

And, yeah, anyone who relies mainly on Facebook for their news should be publicly shamed and have the right to vote taken from them.

Yeah, the transition really began with the Iran hostage crisis. The were covering it 24/7, and it went on and on, and that coverage morphed into CNN. And then came Fox.

OT:

I recall pretty clearly that the scrolling update row (whatever it's called) used by cable news channels became ubiquitous in the days following 9/11.

Reporting news has always been subjective to some extent and some of it was bad in "the good old days(?)"

I'm saying the amount of slanted news has increased. That and more echo chambers like a Facebook account.

We have had bias forever. I don't think anyone would accuse Howard Cozell of being neutral. If anyone did an impersonation, one name he said again and again is:

JOE
WILLIE
NAMATH

So is anyone else just so tiered of any of this, its over, done, not changing. No retraction, apology or statement of regret is coming from the league "ever". I get it, us fan want to see the Pats get a break on this topic but Nationally no one is listening, really just no other folks outside New England are listening, caring, believing etc.etc.

All this talk about it just has to end. Its over, nothing is happening or changing.

Disappointing, but true. When the Patriots were in the cross hairs, it was a lead story on all three major networks. Every show from The View and Sesame Street had a comment on it. Now, when the same circumstances arise for another team, no one is interested. Lester Holt, Matt Lauer, Rosie O'Donnell, etc don't have any information about this or an opinion they want to share.

It's like the context site the Patriots put together. It's a nice collection of information, but if you don't know it's there, you're never going to read it. And no one is appearing on your TV to tell you about it.

More of the NFL brand of politics: Goodell is a political animal, and it's why people are unhappy with him. Every major decision from him has been not been determined by the merits or "the right thing." It's either public opinion or owner pressure.

If Kraft had any balls he'd see the "much ado" comment as the slap in the face it is and get his lawyers to draft a formal complaint right now. And deliver it to the League in the middle of the second half on Sunday.

Get his lawyers to file a formal complaint against an entity that is not bound by laws? I'm sure commissioner goodell will refer it to arbitrator goodell, so it can be heard by judge goodell.

The only court that matters in the NFL, is the court of public opinion.

What about the children?

Phiew, he misspoke. Thanks for clearing that up, NFL. Stay classy.

Nobody is forcing you to talk about it.

Why don't you reciprocate that respect and allow others to make their own decisions?

I, and many others, are not going to meekly accede to King Roger on his fraud. That's your decision, don't force it down others' throats.

And by any objective measure, Florio, Jenkins, Bayless, and plenty of others NATIONALLY and many more have come around on this increasingly the past 6-9 months. The tide has turned greatly nationally.

Will anything come of it? Most probably not. The penalties are all in the books and that part is over. But the reputation of Brady and the Patriots NATIONALLY is far better today than it was 1 year ago on this subject and Goodell very likely is not going to leave his job soon voluntarily.

Have you not noticed - - the TV ratings are down???? Open your eyes - - Goodell is in a far weaker state right now. Follow the money.........

I see it very likely that he is increasingly seen as damaged goods by the owners precisely because of the damage done to the "brand" by Deflategate.

.....and I will relish it when he gets the axe.

Even if he "misspoke" about the timing of the balls being checked, he's still a moron for his statement of how important it is that the same referee does the test with the same equipment for the sake of accuracy.

I mean, does this moron just **not know** what happened with deflategate?

Think the Patriots are letting this go quietly? Both Dan Wetzel and Sally Jenkins' articles this week have been linked to at wellsreportcontext.com.

Passive-aggressively putting it on wellsreportcontext.com is the definition of letting it go quietly.

They should demand that the officials measure the balls on the field on live TV and announce the results on the PA system.
I have said they should have one in public, measure it on screen before the game and then as part of the half time show and then at the end.

It's okay!! Goodell misspoke.

NFL says Goodell misspoke regarding DeflateGate II

“The Giants had asked us about it during the game,” Goodell told reporters on Wednesday regarding the concerns raised about the inflation level in footballs used by the Steelers on December 4 in Pittsburgh.

“The Commissioner misspoke regarding the time the club notified the league,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told PFT via email. “He meant to say after the game.”

So there we have it.

How come no one has investigated this? Someone in the Giants organization must want to talk.

I do think the details are lost on him.

Once he goes off message and talking points he is walking cluster**k
