Why isn't Efton Chism III playing?

If we see Chism active instead of Douglas, I could see Douglas gone before the trade deadline. Chism only needs to show that he is an OK emergency #5 WR.
So you’re saying if Douglas is traded and Chism is the starter in the slot…that will make him the #5th WR?

Playing time for the wideouts through three games:

If you make the 53 man roster then you should see a few snaps at least.

Unless Diggs is the “starter in the slot”

I think that Diggs should start in the slot. I believe that this change has already taken place.

I would have Williams as the #4 WR and Chism as the #5 (whether active or not).

I strongly disagree.

We do NOT have a 53 man active roster.

Do you propose rotating the active players to give guys like Gregory, Ponder, Brown, Lowe and Wallace? What about Dobbs and DeVito?

There is a meaning of the concept of "backup".

These players should only get reps if there are injuries among the normally active players, and sometimes only if there are two injuries. For example, Brown is the first backup among the IOL's. If there is a SECOND injury, Wallace might get some reps.

Just realized even Jakobi Meyers played Week 1 his rookie season. Why the heck ISN'T Chism in there for a snap or 10?

Maye's completion percentage is 72%, and he leads the league in hitting open receivers 69%, he's not the problem.
What's the source for the latter? Thanks!

I would suggest that there weren't 5 other WR's that the team considered better than Meyers for Game One.

Who is at Z if Diggs starts at slot?

Why didn't Edelman play much his first year?

Boutte has been the primary option at Z.
Yeah I meant X. Diggs and Boutte should remain on the outside most of the time until Williams is up to speed…pun intended. Thank you for responding…I realize my reply is to you and not MG.

Chism is the only dude who can get open fast. I don’t get it
I'm only seeing limited snaps too and I'm the fastest wr on the team..

Vrabel said something the other day about how we can only dress 5 at wr or something to that effect.. what I anticipate is.. if pop continues to struggle against the Panthers.. I believe he get his snaps reduced and Chism is active and someone else gets inactive to allow for Chism. Something has to give.. pop has shown abilities with some putrid QB play. A player i like and would love to see him start producing as he's hampering the offense. If not then I don't see how Vrabel doesn't go to chism?

I think that's what it comes down to. Out of everyone, he's the one who isn't producing and I think there's something to be said for Bedard also noting he often seems to be in the wrong place. Only the coaching staff knows that for sure, so his playing time this weekend should be interesting to follow.

This is the same way I feel about Henderson and why he isn't the lead back as some want. In that example, we're given a little bit more evidence, though: isn't strong enough to pick up blitz yet, isn't better at pass catching, isn't quite yet juking defenders out of their shoes, so still gets as much contact as Stevenson but doesn't get further.

Lots of reasons a player won't sniff the field. Some it's more of a macro of how the team is built and what's available moreso than just the player themselves.

Hard to really understand why pop isn't producing. He's a got a great OC a great young developing QB the OL is better...

Pop has shown with some wretched QB play past few seasons that he could produce. He's a much better player than whatever he's showing right now. If he continues to be a non factor hard to see Vrabel not going to chism.

A question I'd love to hear more about is: what's the read on Diggs? I am not mad at his production at all but would love to see him start becoming the big target on this offense. What time of the season do folks anticipate that being? I'd like to see what this offense looks like when he's closer to full health. I think with a healthy Diggs and Henry as the top options, then a more consistent development for those beneath the two, will make for a pretty potent offense. The question is when will the stars align?

Good points. I feel like the team isn't trying to over due it with Diggs.. I believe they are taking the precautionary approach with him.. he's likely playing at 80-85%.. he's made some crucial catches.. but if pop is going to continue to be a non factor they have to feed Diggs more.. I'm saying by week 6,7 this team should be a much better offense as a whole.

Why didn't Edelman play much his first year?
Mostly because of injuries, TBH.

As I've brought up multiple times before: when Edelman broke his arm against the Titans, he was leading all rookies in receptions.
