Why isn't Efton Chism III playing?

But he threw more passes to Chism than anyone in camp, but let’s not put him on the field.
I think Chism already proved in preseason that he's a playmaker. I don't know what McDaniels is thinking but get Chism on the field.

Maye needs weapons and he already showed chemistry with Chism.

Stop trying to make Pop a thing because he just hasn't produced enough to keep running out there and making Chism ride the pine.

We are leaving valuable plays and points off the board by not getting our best players on the field.

Pop was 4th best WR in separation last year. If Maye could actually throw it right to him instead of bouncing it in, it would be helpful. Maye had a similr throw to Henry last year where he was way off on the throw and it ended up off Henry's hands into an INT. Everyone blamed Henry for that crap throw.

Maye's completion percentage is 72%, and he leads the league in hitting open receivers 69%, he's not the problem.

Isn't this Vrabel's choice. Why does McD get blamed?

I’m so tired of people acting like Vrabel’s choices are actually Josh’s. Mike is in charge of who is active or inactive.

While I agree Vrabs has the ultimate say, each game has it's own gameplan based on matchups with your opponent. There is zero % chance that McD doesn't have input into what players he thinks will give them the best chance to succeed on O every week. Vrabs is smart enough to take McD's input and consider it thoroughly.

There's always a reason a certain player is not playing.

Yup, and we have to trust the coaches know more than us and are making the right decision.
Well....except for some of BBs moves. He seemed to hold certain players out purely based on spite.

To elaborate on my statement, coaches will get attached to certain players for whatever reason while ignoring others. It happens all the time in all sports. And anyone that has played competitive sports would have experienced that as well. I have been on both sides. McDaniels may be forcing Pop Douglas to be a thing.

The other reason is that he's just not as good as we want to believe. Henderson was prematurely anointed and he's struggled badly so far. In fact, he was supposed to be a fierce pass blocker, but he's been getting bullied so far.

I’m sure he is getting good coaching but I think it would be nice if James White visited for a week or so. White was a good pass blocker…I’m sure Henderson has a lot of respect for what White has done in his career.

Have Kevin Faulk visit too.

Pop is not long for this roster.

Mark my words.

I suspect he’s gone in the offseason.

Drake just doesn’t seem to have any chemistry with him.

In Josh’s offense precision is crucial…that isn’t Pop’s game.

Add a tiny catch radius to a QB who isn’t always pinpoint accurate and it’s just a bad fit.

Brissett targeting Douglas last year:
18-of-25 (72%) 134yds 0 TDs (7.4 YPC)

Maye targeting Douglas last year:
45-of-58 (77.6%) 453 yards, 3 TDs (10.1 YPC)

I wouldn't say they don't have chemistry. Could just be Douglas is still figuring out the offense and the opportunities haven't been there.

???
doesn't have long for the roster AND he will survive for entire season?

If we see Chism active instead of Douglas, I could see Douglas gone before the trade deadline. Chism only needs to show that he is an OK emergency #5 WR.

It's interesting. Watching the film back while doing the snaps, Douglas seems like he's all over the place and Bedard even felt he ran the wrong route a few times. To your point, it's possible that if Chism emerges that Douglas' future would certainly be in question since they don't need multiple guys in the same role, especially given how much they have two tight ends out there.

As I told @UGAPatsfan , I don't know if it's chemistry, considering they did so well together last year. But while Maye did bounce that pass to him, Douglas has had a couple of drops, and it feels like he's struggling a bit. They're both the same people from last year, but there's definitely a reason he's only 5-of-13 (38.5%) to this point. Something is definitely off.

He probably isn't on the field because he isn't better than what we're trotting out. How often did Chism face actually planned out, first string defenses?

Seems like its the latter in this case. You throw him out there and see what he’s got, he can’t be worse than Douglas right now
Also there are guys with a different mind set. They simply dont practice well, but put them on the field of play and whatever it is -- it clicks. Amendola was that way - simply didn't practice well, but clutch? He had that gene is spades.

I think it's a numbers thing. Hollins and Douglas are seeing the reps behind Boutte and Diggs, and they have been working Kyle Williams in there, so there just hasn't been room for him. I think one other thing that will be interesting will be to see how much Williams' numbers increase and who sees a drop.

Vrabel praised him on Wednesday:

On if he sees Kyle Williams’s opportunities increasing:

“Hopefully. Again, the ones we’ve thrown to him, he’s caught. And just keep building a role for him and get everybody some opportunities and let the quarterback throw to the guy that’s open.”

So it sounds like we might see more of him.

A severe case of "shiny object syndrome" by the usual suspects has struck again. Here the herd stampeding for Chism, a promising kid, who probably hasn't caught a pass in a game against an NFL SECOND teamer, let alone a starter, while the guy who has been one of our most effective WR's the last 2 years (albeit a low bar here) is being offered for trash bags.

Now, I hope that Chism turns out to be the next great no name WR story following Brown, Welker, and Edelman, just like the next guy, but the mind-numbing dun of these Johnny one-notes who type out the SAME posts over and over again, are driving me nuts.

How many times are they going to ignore the issue of learning a brand new difficult offense when some call for patience. How long with they just ignore contradicting evidence that doesn't suit THEIR opinions. I guess what is happening in the "real world" is seeping into my safe haven.

I'm confused.
Our primary receiver is Henry
We have Boutte as our #1 WR
Diggs and Hooper get lots of reps over the middle.
Hollins is the #3 WR doing everything and is likely to have fewer reps as Williams get more reps.
Williams is being brought along slowly.
=================
I'm fine with the above.
Josh likes to have a 5th WR active, cerainly until Williams is getting lots of reps. At that point the above 4 is plenty.

NOW TO THE ISSUE OF THIS THREAD
Chism isn't playing because the staff thinks that Douglas is more valuable than Chism, on Game Day. Isn't it really that simple?
I don't see how the top 4 WR's are relevant to the choice between Douglas and Chism.

I think that's what it comes down to. Out of everyone, he's the one who isn't producing and I think there's something to be said for Bedard also noting he often seems to be in the wrong place. Only the coaching staff knows that for sure, so his playing time this weekend should be interesting to follow.
