What do we do at CB if Logan Ryan leaves?

O dunno, this?

Bill will do what bill does and find his replacement. Probably via draft.
What's Randall Gay up to these days?

He played exceptionally well down the stretch and in the playoffs. We'd be lucky to have him back, as literally every Pats fan would agree. However, in the likely scenario that he leaves, I will trust Bill to find a suitable replacement.

This draft's very deep at corner. I hope we draft one. Hopefully we can get multiple picks for garoppolo if traded.

Like every position this comes down to value at 6 million a year I would be thrilled to have him back as a top end #2 corner. At the more likely 8-10 million he is going to see on the open market goodbye Logan and thanks for the memories. There is only so much dough to go around and with McCourty getting 10 million a year and Butler due 12 million a year (or around that) you can't spend that large a percentage on your secondary. So if the choice is Ryan or butler I am signing butler 11 outta 10 times and grooming/trading a replacement #2. Sucks....but it's the reality of the salary cap you can't pay everyone and there is constant turnover so make sure you choose wisely who to hold on to.

You think malcolm's a 12 million dollar corner?

You think malcolm's a 12 million dollar corner?
I do.

He's won us a SB, taken over the CB1 job for two years straight, limited top receivers like AB, has a movie coming out about him, etc.

More importantly, he's humble, practices hard, and continues to grow into a larger role as a shut down cornerback.

If Ryan leaves, then I am sure that Bill will draft a CB with possibly a top-100 pick.
I also wouldn't mind re-signing old friend Sterling Moore; it shouldn't cost much more than the vet minimum-plus incentives.

I see two options.

We could go the Laissez Faire route, and hope that Rowe continues his solid play and that Cyrus makes big progression, which is risky.

I think it's more likely we sign an older get CB, though not overpaying for one. I think Leon Hall would be a good option on the market right now, but Jason McCourty and Jonathan Joseph would be great options if they hit the market.

Thoughts?

Similar thoughts actually. Pats have a very solid, promising CB group that they control for 2 years - but without Ryan also inexperienced.

Id be surprised if BB wouldn't add at least one veteran corner, possibly more for TC. There will be quite a few solid veteran corners available in FA for low cost (quite a few with NE experience so maybe some reunion is possible).

The report that they were shopping for Joseph midseason further suggests they want to add veteran presence in the group.

Philadelphia has two veteran FA corners in Nolan and McKelvin.
Butler had a solid season with Colts at CB and FS (best slot grade by the end of Nov) as you can read here: Darius Butler Has Allowed League’s Lowest Passer Rating When Covering Slot

You think malcolm's a 12 million dollar corner?
Yes I do. Top corners who shut down a whole side of the field like prime revis or Peterson get 15, 16 million a year. Butler is not and never will be that guy. What he is is a clear number one top 10 corner who can make the rest of the defense work so yes in today's market he is easily worth 12 a year. Now I believe he is willing to take a slight hometown discount as he truly appreciates the chance only the pats gave him also more upfront money as he hasn't made much. I would offer a 5 year 55 million with a 15 SB. I bet he takes it as it instantly changes his life.

Butler also packs a big punch when he makes tackles. I wonder how much it will take to keep him?

What if we kept Logan and traded Butler for a first

Plan A is Cyrus Jones steps into his place
Plan b is a plauer we drafted or sign as a FA takes the job away from Jones
Plan C is we try different guys and don't know who really has the job til thanksgiving

I think it's more when than if, he's going to get $10m+ a year.

Look at how many of the seahawks #2 corners have been signed by other teams to be their #1 and failed.

I could see some dumb team giving logan ryan crazy money to be their #1 corner and him getting burned.

I expect Eric Rowe to make a year jump with us, I think Cyrus improves a bit to maybe a lot hopefully

I get the feeling that our schedule will only be respected if it features the NFC east especially now that the cowboys seem relevant again.

Edit: wrong thread. strenght of schedule thread was my target lol
