I heard you need 2 weeks to acclimate to altitude. Apparently the Pats are at risk of dehydration, lack of stamina, and altitude sickness(if that's a problem) vs the Raiders who come in 24 hours before the game so they can avoid the problem..

I wonder how it will play out.

It would be a weird, out-of-character ****up if the team's decision to stay in altiude didnt account for things like that. Curious..

Physiology is very much individual dependent. VO2, lung capacity, fitness level, and numerous other factors come into play. The Raiders basically face similar risks on day one as the Patriots do on day eight.

I don't agree.

While it takes 3-6 weeks to fully acclimatize, and competitively, you're never really going to be the same as at sea level, the real danger here is altitude sickness and that's what the team is avoiding, rather than going for as much acclimatization as possible.

A week makes a huge difference in avoiding altitude illness.

I don't really subscribe to the philosophy that getting there within 24 hours really does anything. The first night for many players is going to be sleepless, and the rate of dehydration is going to be much higher as the body hasn't adjusted to the lack of moisture at that altitude. It's going to think it's still at sea level and process water just as fast, rather than start conserving.

So what we'll see is the Raiders probably get off to a fast start, or keep up with us for one half at the most, and then hit the wall and nosedive as players quickly get dehydrated and/or start gassing.

I'm expecting this will be a game of two different halves.

Pat players have probably been receiving hypobaric chamber treatments daily since the end of training camp.

How about an Anti-Laser- Missile? Just park it on the sideline.

IDK. Kinda bulky and produces a lot more collateral damage which tends to confuse the survivors as to what the original target was.

OTOH, seeing a guy who's been yukking it up with a laser pointer - and only THAT guy - suddenly and quietly get vaporized makes the point much more definitively.

Ok I see your point.

Then only as a backup then. Just in case.

This is a quote from a guy who moved there in the military and has seen various affects. Imo it pretty much supports your opinion.

Don’t buy into all that crap...everyone is different and the altitude affects everyone differently. When I moved here with the army we had some guys that were immediately affected and others that took a week or two and some, myself included that never felt the affect at all. The O2 masks on the sidelines are likely to have little affect on someone that might be susceptible to altitude sickness, at least during the game.

Just gonna put these here

Cousins
25 for 30
365 yards
3 TD

Rivers
25 of 36
270 yards
1 TD

Alex Smith
25 of 36
342 yards
3 TD

Taylor
20 of 27
165 yards
1 TD

Cutler
34 of 42
311 yards
3 TD

League MVP David Carr is going to be a real challenge. Possibly the best QB the Pats will face this season. Kahlil Mack is a 1-man wrecking crew. He can single handedly change the outcome of a game. A few seasons ago he had 8 or 9 sacks here in Denver and beat a superior Broncos team. This is also a revenge game for our friend Beast Mode. Look for him to prove once and for all they should have run instead of pass the ball in the Super Bowl.

The Dolphins had alot of success in passing the ball to their running backs. I think the Pats are gonna lay focus on exploiting that.

Nate Solder with better hand placement *thanks to Scar* have looked like a Pro Bowl Left Tackle in recent weeks. Kahlil Mack can be Great but he's no Von Miller who was neutralized by both Waddle and Solder. Also Kudos to the play of our Interior Thuney - Andrews and Mason.

We can never overlook a team but let's be honest we have the biggest advantage outside of the field. Bill vs Tomlin. For some reason as well brady gets really hyped for the steelers. Maybe it will be competitive. Squealers are probably sick of losing to us. They haven't face an offense like ours.

Speaking of "overlooking a team," there's a whole lot of Pittsburgh in this thread on the Oakland game.

You guys need to chill about the pointing lasers lol. Yeah, they can bother during a play, but wont blind or hurt anybody. Its way too hard to aim at moving targets too

The reason Oakland worries very little is because they are very predictable.

Their run game won't beat us. Their weapons are Cook, Cooper and Crabtree. Carr is a good QB but not really mobile so the Pats don't need to put a spy on him. He isn't a slow as Brady but not really known for running.

On D just stop Mack. He does move around a lot but really they stay pretty conventional on D outside of the front looks. I don't see them run a lot of traps in the secondary.

Also just a side note. I watched their dolphins game highlights. On 2 passing TDs there were arguably 3-4 missed tackles all together. I take it their secondary has tackling issues. I would love to throw a few short passes to Cook in space and see what he can make happen.

after 9 games, the Raiders do not have a single INT.....they have fewer sacks than the Pats D

there's no reason to believe that the pats won't put up 40 or more again this week.

You just gave us one. Raiders don't have a single int in 9 weeks? That means they are well over due for some Ints. Sounds like bad juju to me.

Oakland has 3 big WR options and all are dangerous. TE Cook 6'4 235 lbs is actually their leading pass catcher. Crabtree (6-2 215) and Cooper (6-1 210) are good sized WRs. Their OL is of course out standing.

This game will come down to Chung, Gilmore and Butler. I think after facing the super speedy and quick Sanders he will be happy to square off with these guys.

I'd say Gilmore on Crabtree and Butler on Cooper makes the most sense. Crabtree plays a very physical game and that is up Gilmore's alley.

On offense it is just about not letting Mack take over the game. Again have Develin in to help chip him this game too and that should pretty much leave their D exposed.

Man, I look at that 4-5 Raiders team and wonder what is going on up there. They have a great looking offense, but.. they're 22nd in ppg behind the 49ers. They turn the ball over a ton (-7), and they suck on 3rd down. That defense is last in the league in sacks, meaning Brady will have all day to pick their less than stellar secondary apart.

The Raiders barely beat the Dolphins in that game where Jay Cutler couldn't get off the field fast enough to light up a Marlboro. Well, they are coming off a bye, so the Raiders will have Brady and McDaniels all figured out, so I expect a complete grinder, like 19-14 Patriots. Or a blowout.

I doubt that you will be able to prevent that. How ?

Safetyglass Face screen on the qb helmet with a reflective coating in the laser pointer frequency (band). Might give a slight color misperception, but as long as doesn't fog up . . .all good.
