Does anyone actually believe that if Bledsoe had been the QB for all of 2001 that the Pats would have won a Super Bowl? Cmon, Man.
Bledsoe was an inconsistent passer. One pass would be money and the next pass in the dirt. Bledsoe was terrible at reading defenses. Bledsoe choked on 3 teams.Drafting Drew Bledsoe was a “mistake”? Lol. You think Mirer was a better idea?
They wouldn’t have made it to the Super Bowl with Bledsoe playing the season.
But could Bledsoe have won the game itself and done better than Brady’s 16-27 145 yards and not even 100 yards passing until 2 minutes left in that game? Sure why not?
Bledsoe’s problems were he held the ball too long going through his progressions, didn’t have a quick release, and a statue in the pocket. Which might have been fine because he had a cannon arm but philosophically wasn’t a fit anymore for the kind of offense that Weis and Bill wanted to run. But he took this team from a laughingstock to respectability. Brady took it to the next level and then a few above that.Bledsoe was an inconsistent passer. Josh Allen is another Bledsoe,
Wynn has played in 14 of the 38 regular season games since drafted.Wynn is ok..except when you consider we passed on STUD Calvin Ridley for him
He did something, just not the right something unless Stidham turns out to be a good QB, don't have my hopes up though. There are 2 main reasons we are starting a rebuild:
1) Bill mismanaged the cap mostly because his drafts have been awful for several years
2) Bill totally screwed the QB transition by doing nothing for 3 years after he traded Jimmy.
Some people are so into the draft they probably should go root for that mythical perfect drafting team and stop making themselves and the rest of us miserable with their whining about this team.I’d like to see the comparables. Many posters are only focused on this team and the misses. But do the other teams hit on every pick ? There are have - of course - been teams that have hit on several key players in successive years. Are they w/o fail for decades ?
The implication is that BB is horrendous at drafting and he has single handedly doomed NE with his failure. I keep asking for the comparables so that we can peek into a ten or twenty year stretch of drafts.
Stupid take. If that is the case, how come all of those other great teams keep winning the super bowl every year. You can't have it both ways. I understand you love to ***** about the patriots drafts, and you think you know much better then they do, but spouting off that they suck at it, while they win every year while no other team has ever done that makes you sound idiotic. The Patriots were able to play at the highest level in professional sports since 2001. 19 seasons, can you comprehend that? I looked at the other "great teams" records since 2010. Steelers, 3 years 8-8, Saints 4 years 7-9, Seahawks 2 years 7-9 1 year 9-7, chiefs 1 year 2-14 1year 7-9 1 year 9-7. During that time the patriots have 1 year at 11-5. If you go back to 2000 the patriots have had one losing season. Then you have to go back to 1995 for their second losing season. Two losing seasons in 25 freaking years. Tom was going to leave maybe they could have kept him another year or two, but was this team going to be good enough to win the superbowl again?NO
Because there are plenty of great players drafted in later rounds.
You can’t go 7 years and miss on 5 or 6 of your top picks. Draft picks on their 1st contracts are cheap and they need to make up a good portion of the roster. Pretty clear to see the difference in quality from Bill’s top picks before 2014 and after.Right because first picks of drafts are the only piece of the puzzle when building a team.
I don’t know. Bill seemed to do really well picking later in the rounds from 2001 - 2013. We got Mankins, McCourty, Jones, and Hightower late in the 1st round. Gronk 2nd round. There’s still lots of talent at the end of the first and in the 2nd round.I'd like to see what would happen if they were drafting in the middle of the order, with an occasional top ten pick, rather than always at the end.
The definition of stupidity is lauding the Pats draft picks that work out and then making the lame excuse that picking so late caused the player to be a bust. Do you need to be educated again on how many really good WRs were taken after Harry? Did not picking Nick Chubb cause Sony to be mediocre because the Pats picked late. Of course not and only a short bus patron such as yourself would go there.Stupid take. If that is the case, how come all of those other great teams keep winning the super bowl every year. They drafted Bledsoe during the Brady years? Was this humor or honest mistake? I'm surprised nobody caught this.Brady hid all the mistakes including drafting Drew Bledsoe.
Bledsoe helped make the Pats relevant in the 90's so he was obviously the right pick. But I agree Bledsoe wasn't great at reading defenses and was a high maintenance QB. He needed the O-line to block well, a consistent ground game to set up play action passes and WR's to get open quickly or he'd start his signature repeated patting of the ball. With all that being said, he was still a very solid QB.Bledsoe was an inconsistent passer. One pass would be money and the next pass in the dirt. Bledsoe was terrible at reading defenses. Bledsoe choked on 3 teams.

Fair point, but if you do hit on a player you can still trade them (Chandler Jones) for a decent haul and keep the train rolling. The 2014 and 2015 first round picks and 2016 second round pick aren’t super relevant here. Their rookie contracts would have already expired, so big hits there would be either gone or highly paid.
