Patriots trade for Carolina DE Kony Ealy

God damn. If they resign Hightower and find a way to keep Butler, this may be the finest defense Belichick has fielded since the '03 unit.
Just need a 3rd/passing down veteran pass rush specialist to replace Long. Sign either Dumervil/Ware/Williams and this defense will be sick next year.

And I forgot to mention we need a young stud at RB to help aleviate some of the pressure off Brady to protect him in his quest thru uncharted waters. Brady makes guys who would dissappear on another teams depth chart look like Pro-Bowlers here....which is the biggest reason why Brady is the best EVER. Now let get him more talented youth on the O-Line the aforementioned and some "Tall" "Go Up There and Get It" WRs that will bring back a Moss Like renaissance to the offense....unstoppable. The guy deserves to have those toys these other Pre-Madonna QBs still suck with

Pinch me.....ive been lurking thru all this frenzy and reading all you guys insightful posts and breaking news but I just cant help myself on this one.

Let me get this straight we drop a small aount of draft slots into the beginning/mid part of the 3rd round from the 64th overall and get Kony FREAKIN!! Ealy in the process.

BB I love you.....you just tickled my inner football geek pink, lol

Now PLEASE resign HT, say no to trading Butler and if it must be then Cooks will be dynamic in this offense.....

I'm excited to see the additions coming to LB, D-Line and CB(Ryan's replacement)...and yes we do need to bring in some dynamic young wideouts either thru trade, FA or the Draft and apparently BB feels this way with the stories breaking left and right (Cooks, Hunter and Hopkins maybe in play again).

Im sooo pumped about this Defense right now

*pinches you*

Also post more please. People are stuck reading the useless trash I write. Grace this board with your Shakespearean lore and drag it out from under the muddled fog which is my aimless posting.

This really is close to free.

Let's say Ealy bumps Geneo Grissom off the roster. Geneo's cap cost is $615K; Ealy is about $903K. So the cap cost is around $280K. Because Grissom was cut once, there is no dead money there.

And the way Belichick drafts, there is a pretty low probability that he would have taken any of the eight players selected between 64 and 72. He'll take whatever safety most recently played at Rutgers or something.

I haven't read the whole thread so this might have (probably was) already been posted:

I'm pretty sure that this was the final Interception of Pink Head's career. Bonus points that it came in the Super Bowl where he was really good at throwing them.

It's very appropriate that we have this guy as a Patriot.

Fun fact. Sheard to Colts. They were never going to sign him but good to know.

...and Belichick likes to move down eight spots just for fun!
This is like a team giving us a player for free!

A player making $1.1 million in the last year of his contract.

Think he will be HUNGRY?

Ryan <<< Gilmore ( cancel comp)
Long + Sheard ( we get comp pick) <<<< Odrick + Ealy
Bennett ( we get a comp pick) >>>> Allen
Branch BACK
HARMON BACK
Floyd ?????
Blount ?????
HT????
Vollmer: gone need depth

New plan JG to Browns for #12 and #65

#12 ILB
#32 DE
#65 WR
#72 RB
#96 TE

Man that pass was a freakin' duck. Heard it quacking off his hands. That said, great play by Ealy.

I would have felt better if it wasn't for a second rounder. To be honest i feel like he's worth a fourth rounder. He hasn't been the
player that came out of college. He had a big game in the superbowl and that's about
it.

I have never put a poster on ignore before, but you are tempting me.

Can't wait to see what the Colts will pay Sheard...hehehe. Another comp pick is coming.

In the meantime, consider this: Pats got Mingo for a 5th round pick and paid him the last year of his rookie deal, then let him walk.

The Colts paid him 2.5 million this FA, which will give the Pats a 6th round comp pick, likely.

Meanwhile, the Pats grab Ealy, who will fill a much bigger role, for 8 spots in the draft and under 1m and it will cost them no comps.

Unbelievable.

Colts paid 25.5 for Sheard! 3 years, 12.5 guaranteed.

OMG.

We should have done that instead of losing 8 picks for Ealy, amirite?

ps. Good for Sheard, though - other than that one incident this year, he was a solid player for NE. I wish him very well.

Excuse me - this was where he would have drafted his second TE this year...

It's basically like going after sheard. Too inconsistent when it comes to rushing the passer. In a draft full of pass rusher we go after a guy that has been dissapointing.
OMG, is the draft over and I missed it?????? who did we get PP????

He has been a dissapointment. How's this guy worth a second rounder? Bill must not like the players in this draft. So now they only have a first rounder and a bunch of 3rd round picks. This guy's similar to sheard. I don't see the big excitement here.

Couldn't he have gotten him for a 3rd rounder?

The picks are nearly identical... Patriots gave up 64th pick and got the 72nd overall pick + Ealy.. who is a veteran DE with big game SB experience...

Moving back 8 spots in the draft to get a veteran DE at a position of need is nothing short of genius, even if its only for 1 year... and, if Ealy puts together a solid season and gets a nice contract as a free agent, then the Pats could potentially get a decent Comp pick for him in 19'

What's the 64th pick for you? Pats got a 3rd rounder. It's like throwing a body and hoping he can be the player he was in college.

Instead of focusing on the round of the pick, you should focus on the position number of the pick..

Pats Lose:
- Pick #64

Pats Gain:
+ Pick #72
+ Kony Ealy

Belichick must have incriminating photos or something on their GM, that is a ridiculous trade... We just added a solid veteran DE to a position of need and still have the draft pick we gave up, its just 8 slots back..

Absolute genius move.. No one can possibly make a legitimate argument for why this was a bad trade
