This was the guy I wanted in 2014 when he was available at the end of the first. Absolutely my draft binkie that year.
He hasn't outperformed his 2014 draft rankings, picking up only five sacks a year. But big, very versatile, athletic, elite agility (6.8 second three-cone drill, which compares with corners and wide receivers, not a 275-pound end.
He should be able to play a Vrabel/Colvin type role, playing end, setting the edge, standing up & dropping into coverage, rushing the passer. Not necessarily elite at any one thing, but very good at lots of things.
While not an every-game starter, he's been pretty durable, playing in 16 games the past two seasons and 15 as a rookie.

I am very excited.

Well there's some good players early in this draft and we only have one pick at number 32 until we reach 72. That number 32 could be dealt for brandin cooks
We moved down 8 picks. There's a decent chance we'll get the same player we would have anyway. Are you real or are you like one of those fake twitter accounts ?

Has there ever been anything you liked? Anything at all?

I would have felt better if it wasn't for a second rounder. To be honest i feel like he's worth a fourth rounder. He hasn't been the
player that came out of college. He had a big game in the superbowl and that's about
it.

Pats have also added two useful players in two trades, improved on their cap, still have the same number of draft picks as before without significantly damaging the value of the traded picks, and will be in line for a comp pick next year if Ealy leaves.

So we should now have a very talented and motivated DE, playing for a contract in a league where pass rushers get paid big.

It is almost as much fun watching BB, the Jedi master, at work, as it is watching the Pats play.

Oh, and **** you Roger Goodell!

Yeah, the contract year thing cannot be understated. Ealy has all the motivation in the world to work his ass off and be the player he has the potential to be this year. He could easily have $40M+ in guaranteed money on his next contract riding on how he performs between September and February. If there's any time, situation, and team that's going to get him playing to his potential, it's this one.

Steep price to pay for a one year rental. Better be an extension coming because you don't throw 2nd away for rentals do you?

Edit: Nevermind. May get a 3rd if he leaves in FA.

Well not only do we get a 3rd from Carolina in the deal we also will get some comp pick for him likely. What if we get a 5th or 4th comp pick?

Won't we pretty much make the entire draft capital value back?

So we going to go crazy over that one game? Potential. He has potential. I basically see this as sheard coming to new england to play.

You are either incredibly ignorant about the game or a ridiculous troll. If it's the former, read a book on the sport. If it's the latter, let me know so I can put you on ignore.

They moved down 8 spots in the draft. In return, they got a former 2nd round pick who'll be essentially making minimum wage this season while the team banks on his potential, and who can be cut with almost nothing having been lost.

The Pats traded the draft value equivalent of a late fifth rounder for him. By your own evaluation, it's a good deal for them. Have you just not read any of the dozen posts in this thread correcting you on what the trade was? It's getting really hard to take you even a little bit seriously, because you're so far off on what they gave up and seem utterly determined to continue ignoring it.

One of two things is happening. You are a troll or a chicken little fool lacking the attention span to comprehend any of the explanations given to you in this thread.

Fantastic trade. We needed multiple ends, and both were not going to be rookies.

Any other view has to be confused as to the details. From every angle, it's a great move.

-Moving down 8 spots is virtually nothing. Picking last in the 2nd and acquiring the 8th pick in the 3rd is maybe our original 4th if we had one, or a 5th.

-Sheard is going to command millions. Early makes 900k.

-Sheardis a free agent that will aid us in getting comp picks next year. We've added Gilmore, but lost Ryan, Sheard(expected), Bennett(expected), among others.

-Ealy will be motivated to cash in as he's a FA next year.

-If he plays well and cashes in, we get a comp pick back.

There is no downside to this pick. I hope we go for more of a speed rusher now, in the draft. Harris would be a nice pick at 32.

No. We will see. Seem's like bill's not in love with this draft. I just hope we don't lose hightower.

Jesus f'n Christ, man. It was 8 spots. That's about the value of a 5th round pick.
