Patriots trade for Carolina DE Kony Ealy

It's basically like going after sheard. Too inconsistent when it comes to rushing the passer. In a draft full of pass rusher we go after a guy that has been dissapointing.

Trust the hoodie! He's the greatest GM in the history of sports for a reason!

Not a downer. Just saying he's not worth a second rounder.

.... which is why they didn't trade a 2nd rounder.

View it this way: on draft day, you hear Rich Eisen say, "The Patriots have traded down from #64. They obtain Kony Ealy and pick #72." Wouldn't you be thrilled to hear that? That's exactly what this is.

Right, like getting another year of Sheard...for UNDER $1m.

At this point, i have to conclude that you're either trolling for giggles or are under the age of 12.

Could be a case where the Panthers know they're not gonna pay him after this year so they got something (if very little) for him RIGHT NOW rather than a comp pick in a couple years.

I think that's definitely what it is, but trading up from 72 to 64 seems borderline negligible compared to having a capable body at DE. Even if I didn't think he was good, I'd still think it was a good deal for us.

Unbelievable. Awesome trade. Ealy has the potential to be a stud.

Is Belichick brainwashing people? Holy hell.

This may end up being his greatest offseason EVER and that's insane to think for a guy that's been in the league for over 45 years...

GOAT.

Awesome awesome, I love free agency this year, Ealy is young, a very good pass rusher, and he still has room to grow. Moved only 8 spots back, it's impossible to hate this deal.

Well i hope he can provide a pass rush for us. Maybe a different scheme can help him.

The Patriots traded down 8 spots, from the last pick of the 2nd round to the 8th pick of the third round. The draft value equivalent (the difference in value between those picks) is something like a late fifth rounder.

Whatever great pass rusher you think they're passing up on at 64, there's a good chance they can get him at 72 anyway.

We could never field a good defense or win a SB with a guy that's comparable to Sheard starting for us!

Yesterday you were obsessed with adding another pass rusher because we were losing Sheard, and now you complain about adding someone who you consider to be comparable to him, by only moving up 8 spots.

What's the 64th pick for you? Pats got a 3rd rounder. It's like throwing a body and hoping he can be the player he was in college.

You need to think before posting. According to reports, they didn't give up a 2nd round pick. They dropped down 8 spots. That's a huge difference.

He has been a dissapointment. How's this guy worth a second rounder? Bill must not like the players in this draft. So now they only have a first rounder and a bunch of 3rd round picks. This guy's similar to sheard. I don't see the big excitement here.

Couldn't he have gotten him for a 3rd rounder?

They got him for a swap of picks which was the equivalent of an approximate 5th round pick.
