What do teams that are 3-14, lose a HoF head coach and hire an unknown coach do to entice coaches never mind players to come? IIRC it has been reported that Nick Caley was offered a very nice package to come to NE but didn't and it "wasn't because the money wasn't really good". So if coaches aren't coming here, what do you think of players? I am sure they were lining up to come here. Here is a definition of massive overpay so you can comprehend it. Player A has two offers, one from the Pats and one from team X. Both are the same, say 3 years 80 million 45 GTD. Team X is a borderline playoff team with a decent but not great QB. The Pats would probably have to offer 4 years, 100 million with 55 GTD. For a player that the market sets at 45. Thats an idea of what is a massive overpay.
By the way, unicorns don't change the fact that "something doesn't happen" in the overall sense. Now if you want to add an addendum that Tom Brady played to 45 and won SB at 44 or whatnot thats fine. So fine, I will say it RARELY happens in the NFL. Does that make it better for you and your sensibilities?
