I guess thats a possibility, but I would think they have at least 2 years to see what happens. Maybe the mutiny comment from Lazar wasn't too far from the truth in reality. That can come in many different flavors, but going into half time and the team only had 60 passing yards..one would expect some feelings starting to surface. If they didn't have Maye, maybe this team would have collapsed already. The fact he is there might be keeping some of the guys optimism up that he will be inserted soon and that might help the whole team out.

Maybe Vrabel is waiting in the wings but I am not sure that would be a great fit.
Pivoting to Vrabel’s tougher approach again after the Mayo palette cleanser would be sensible, but I don’t know if Vrabel is the best pick. Another defensive coach and he would again need to lean heavily on his OC. It would be a lot better than this though.

I think the issue we have is we went from BB who until the last 2 seasons was in a word professional. He defended his players publicly to the hilt. Mayo just says too much which isn't professional.

What do teams that are 3-14, lose a HoF head coach and hire an unknown coach do to entice coaches never mind players to come? IIRC it has been reported that Nick Caley was offered a very nice package to come to NE but didn't and it "wasn't because the money wasn't really good". So if coaches aren't coming here, what do you think of players? I am sure they were lining up to come here. Here is a definition of massive overpay so you can comprehend it. Player A has two offers, one from the Pats and one from team X. Both are the same, say 3 years 80 million 45 GTD. Team X is a borderline playoff team with a decent but not great QB. The Pats would probably have to offer 4 years, 100 million with 55 GTD. For a player that the market sets at 45. Thats an idea of what is a massive overpay.

By the way, unicorns don't change the fact that "something doesn't happen" in the overall sense. Now if you want to add an addendum that Tom Brady played to 45 and won SB at 44 or whatnot thats fine. So fine, I will say it RARELY happens in the NFL. Does that make it better for you and your sensibilities?
There is no factual basis to that. I know of not a single example where that has happened. Bad teams sign free agents all the time.

It literally just happened to the Patriots. Unless you want to include their own players. Guess they got Gibson so there is that. But RB isn't a position of need to most teams in the NFL. Tackles and WRs are which is where the Pats struck out on.

I'm late to thread but judging by typos I think @Ring 6 might have had a ****tail or ten?

My point is that no it didn’t. They didn’t try to sign free agents. They didn’t get a WR and then pretended to want to trade for one who didn’t want to go anywhere but Pittsburgh.
That’s it, those are the guys they tried to sign and couldn’t. Meanwhile there were dozens of free agents that could have helped this team, and they sat in 40,000,000 instead.

Making up a reason isn’t prove that it occurred.

They chose Gibson, brissett, chunks, Osborne, Hawkins, leveret, hooper, ps level front 7 players. They guy the guys they pursued other than Ridley. They pursued the wrong guys and not nearly enough of them.

Yeah I notice that he likes to say things which can easily be interpreted as “these guys suck”… I can see how the players may be slowly turning on him

If the year goes on like this they are going to need to fire someone. AVP is the most logical choice. That being said, if the offense shows improvement as the season moves along it will buy him more time. The offense is going to improve when Maye starts so maybe waiting to start Maye will give AVP job security long term. As soon as Maye starts the clock is ticking, without him no one expects anything from the offense.

I understand the line is bad, but this scheme doesn’t seem to help. Everyone knows screens, draws, roll/sprint outs end arounds are ways to slow down the pass rush. We have barely seen any of that, instead we get run plays out of obvious heavy sets and pass plays out of five wide.

To me the defense seems less disciplined. The special teams is the only unit that seems better coached or even coached as well as last year.

Idiot chose Brissett over Jump Ball Joe I won't miss you AVP.

I’m sick of watching these games, having Brissett look like total ****, then after the game having a reporter ask about that and why they aren’t playing Maye and Jerod always answers with something along the lines of “Listen, Jacoby is so tough, so…. He’s our guy”
Look, I grew up a middle class kid..

Why the hell do I care if he’s tough? Yes he’s very tough but you don’t win games at QB by being tough, you win games at QB by throwing the football well. And that’s all they ever say, is that he’s tough. He has nothing else.
They actually asked how close is the gap between Maye and brissett now and he said I don’t want talk about that

look at the 2001 Patriots. There are lots of examples of 1 or 2 year turn arounds. You were wrong on that point.
The Pats have needs just about at every position. There is no good young core in place like there was in 2000 that would help make a 1-2 year turnaround possible. They were 4-13 for a reason and now that doesn't look like the bottom.

The last several years really makes you appreciate Brady that much more.
Not only Brady, but the other players as well. Bill’s coaching staff during that time was his best. The rise of the dynasty in early 2000’s was really fun to watch.

The teams starting in 2020 have been very unlikeable with this year being by far the worst.

Yes, the Defense needs to be more disciplined. But the Defense is doing plenty well enough to expect to win.

WHO IS AT RISK?
=========
The HC and GM a 2-4 year plan, one that the owners have certainly approved. I expect Mayo and Wolf to be given at least two years and likely three.
=======
Each coach and coordinator has his job and responsibility. Who will fail and be fired after one year?
Defensive coordinator?
DL coaches?
LB coaches?
secondary coaches?

Special Teams Coordinator?

Offensive Coordinator?
OL coaches?
Offensive assistant (designated QB guru)?
QB coach?
TE coach?
RB coach?
WR coach?
=========
ANSWER
The two at real risk are the OC and the WR coach.
After only 5 games, the rest are already doing enough to stary for a couple of years.

The Pats are OK at QB if Maye works out, WR is only missing a #1, RB is close, TE is OK, OG is OK. Need a Center, 2 tackles, and WR1. Not too far off. Could use a CB2, another DE and DT and ILB. Those 4 defensive positions could be signed in FA with over $100M in cap space. If Maye is OK we really only need to draft 2 tackles, WR and a Center. Doable in one draft if we trade down to get extra picks, but most likely two drafts.

Of course we need new coaching. We should be OK in 2026 with some good management.

Seems like the team is still fighting hard, I don’t think he’s losing the locker room looking far away from the outside. At some point he’s going to have to put his foot down and roll with Maye, breath of fresh air, team could really use a spark.
