The philly special play wasn't even legal is another one. It's not that there aren't bad calls in all games either, it's this presumption that none of them should favor Brady or NE or whatever. No one ever talks about the Philly special being an illegal play but if we ran it like that? You'd have ex players spewing hate in interviews.
It's frustrating, but that's how the NFL is. Over the course of a year, you get a sense on which team and/or QB are the NFL head office/media favorites and favorable calls go their way. Sometimes it's certain reffing crews favoring certain teams.
Pats are a good sample size to look at. The years they won the SB, they generally had some favorable calls they needed along the way. The years they lost, the opposite.
As was pointed above, the Eagles SB had loads of example. Even at the last hail mary pass, there were 2 egregious offensive interference penalties. Gronk was held down and couldn't even jump for the ball. The reason Gronk was alone at the end zone was that Hogan was blindsided and slammed out of the play as he was running in the middle of the field toward the end zone.
The calls were clearly going against the Pat's. The only way they could have won was by outplaying the Eagles by a significant margin. Which they could have if they weren't busy shooting themselves in the foot,.. Butler comes to mind.
