Very true. Unfortunately, it seems the NFL has been quick to defend others while going out of their way to drag the Patriots through the mud.
All you have to point to is the Colts being accused of pumping sound in and the Jets being caught doing what the Patriots did. In the Colts case the NFL quickly brushed it under the rug, no investigation necessary. CBS--I think it was them--came out quickly after the incident, saying it was a glitch in their system. However, look at it from their standpoint: they just had the highest rated game in NFL history and get their biggest ratings from the NFL, do you really think they'd like to be wrapped up in an NFL conspiracy? So they go along with the NFL and allow the issue to quickly dissolve despite some pretty damning evidence to the contrary (sound experts saying it couldn't have been a television feed, a stadium employee saying they did it all the time, and others coming out and saying their teams pumped in artificial noise).
In the case of the Jets, they had a similar violation to the Patriots (employee not in a designated filming area taping the opposing team). Despite the Patriots coming out and saying 1) they kicked the Jets employee out of the stadium and 2) saying they never gave him permission to film, nothing was made of the incident. I don't care where he was filming, it wasn't a designated area and is as clear a violation of the league rules as the Patriots case.
I hate all this crap, it detracts from the games being played and calls into question the integrity of the game. But after what happened to the Patriots I'd love for other teams--especially the 'holier than thou' Colts--to feel the wrath of the media creating a story from next to nothing.
