Official 2022 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

Cowherd and Stroud have both declared it wasn't a vacation that caused the absence.

Short of a family member health concern, whatever caused TB12 to take 11 days off in the Bahamas amidst training camp is fair game for criticism. That includes the Bucs organization for allowing it.

I'm not sure what it was Cowherd did say he hoped everything was okay for what it's worth same as the Tampa reporter.

The timing of the this has me scratching my head. Whatever the reason I don't think Brady took this decision lightly. It's easy for people to be critical of others when they aren't walking in their shoes. Apparently whatever it was, it was important enough that Brady felt he had to do it. Its not like he didn't know there'd be a lot of fall out from it. Some people know but aren't talking. So we speculate this and speculate that. We punish him for this and punish him for that. The "Masked Singer" and a "family vacation" are among the guesses. The Bucs aren't publically complaining. Maybe they're pissed or maybe they understand. We don't really know at this point.

No way. Brady isn't exactly working 9 to 5 with weekends off like other careers have.

If you want to argue they have a long offseason, I won't debate that.

But when it is actually *in* season, professional athletes performing at the highest level are putting in as many work hours as any other profession there is.
Anywhere from 10-16 hours per day. Awful life, but they’re compensated generously if they succeed.

One theory I heard was that Tom was getting a cosmetic procedure done. Then there's the popular "marital counseling" idea. Also that Brady is finalizing arrangements for a Bahamas-based TB12 health resort.

My position is Brady shouldn't have taken off smack dab in the middle of training camp to attend a family vacation. It's not an unpopular opinion. They can go on to win the Super Bowl... I'll still hold the same opinion about his absence during training camp.

My question to you was in response to this:

I don't think the time off effects Brady much but it's probably a detriment to some of the new players getting acclimated to the offense.

I asked you about which players would be detrimentally affected. I did that for a specific reason, which is that the offense has few new faces who'll need to be up to speed immediately, and those that are likely to be called upon early are veterans (some of whom were out with injury anyway) who should be able to get ready faster.

The only young "addition" is likely to be Goedeke at left guard. The new right guard is Shaq Mason, with whom Brady is certainly familiar. And, they're guards. They need to play together with the rest of the line. The QB isn't the issue there. If they were tackles, you might have more of a point.

Again, here's the situation with the team's WR1-WR4, and likely early season TE1-TE2.

Jones was out injured
Gage was/is out injured
Goodwin was/is working back from ACL surgery
Evans was out injured

Brady's been working with Brate since his arrival, leaving only
Rudolph as the guy for whom the "detriment" issue would even apply.

Finally, at RB, Brady's had plenty of time with Fournette and Vaughan, Bernard's been injured, and the only one left for the purposes of this theoretical detriment is the rookie.

You're rewording what I said (again). I never claimed anyone said it was preferable that Brady be gone. I asked how is it not preferable that Brady be there. There's a difference. Of course no one prefers Brady not be there, which only emphasizes my point that his being there would have been of some benefit. If you take away that benefit (which he did) then it's a negative. It's not complicated.

You posted the following:

how is it not preferable to have your team leader present for any chunk of time during training camp?

So, the only reason that would be an issue is if someone were to say that it's not preferable to have your leader present. And here you've acknowledged that nobody would prefer that. So, you're just building strawmen to kill, and then pouting when I don't play the game.

I suggest that you follow the first rule of holes.

FWIW: Taking kick-return reps three days before the preseason finale are Rachaad White, Jaelon Darden and Deven Thompkins.

“When you compare everything to Brady, everything looks bad.” Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich said of Kyle Trask, who he said is “getting better.”

I can write a lot to convey how much the Bucs like Rachaad White, but then there’s also clips like this:

some fun touches from Bucs RB Rachaad White this preseason. White's balance, burst and hands all on display here. I'm a big fan.

Leftwich was glowing in his praise of backup QB Kyle Trask, saying he’s improved drastically and in ways fans and writers might not see or appreciate.

Still no Russell Gage today either. Julio Jones has a veteran day off.

Detriment

I only care about what he's doing on the football field, which includes attending training camp when healthy like EVERY OTHER PLAYER on every single roster in the NFL.
Apparently you care more about what he is doing off the field. Brady is not EVERY OTHER NFL player. He is the greatest player to ever lived. When you have 23 years in the league and you are in the SB every 2 years. That gives you privileges. Like it or not.

And no, I'm sure the Bucs were not happy with their quarterback taking off in the middle of training to go to the Bahamas while EVERY OTHER PLAYER on the roster was expected to be sweating their balls off at football practice. His teammates probably think it was a **** move too.
Yeah, I am sure the Bucs and all the players are so pissed that they have a shot at winning the SB again instead of having a losing season whit Blaine Gabbert.

The absence, we are not even sure it was a vacation, was planned before training camp and everyone in the building knew about it. No one in the team is pissed. Just you.

I will stop arguing with you because it’s like trying to argue with a 3 year old. It’s impossible.

Adams says its Rodgers lmao

Cowboys LT tore his hamstring and will be out for a long time. A break for the Bucs in week 1.

Hey Bill... someone might really need an OT. Could be a Wynn-Wynn situation for the Cowboys and Patriots...

The haters are simply trying to find another lame excuse to hate on Brady. There is zero evidence whatsoever that any player resents anything he did regarding his vacation. The only statements we have seen were statements of support.

The irony is that despite their whining, it no doubt made the team stronger by giving much needed practice (and preseason) reps to the 2 guys who desperately need it.
