Why do people want Peterson? he's old, injury prone and fumbles too much.

Take the 4-6 million he wants, spend 2 of it on a RB and give the other 4m to sweeten potential Hightower/Butler deals.

2 of Petersons last 3 seasons he's been wrecked by injury and had less than 100 yards rushing in those seasons, i don't want a 32 year old running back who's just a name.

Peterson has played in only 20 of the last 48 Vikings games.

I think there's a lot of truth here. I'm probably higher on Rivers than you are. But the one thing I think we can both agree on is despite all that, they're still in better shape than the Jets, which is amazing and hilarious.
i think they are pretty much in the same boat as the jets. Both horribly run lacking talent and needing major turnarounds.

He wasn't injured in 2014.
Before last year he missed a total of 9 games in 8 years due to injury.

That's right he was suspended for smacking his kid with the switch, still only played in 20 games in 3 years.

I just don't like the idea of 32 year old running back coming off of major injury at a higher salary than your entire Super Bowl winning RB group had.

Ok. Well I'd love to have a guy with his skills for 2 - 3 mill a year and wouldn't be too worried about his injury since he got back in the field before the season ended and the last time he had a (more severe) injury he tore up the league the next year.
Pretty sure he wouldn't be a downgrade from Blount.

If Peterson wants 4-6 mil and the Pats are #3 in pecking order, I would assume that would be because the Pats are only offering 3 mil. I can't see them really going beyond 4 mil on a running back... but hell, I would sure LOVE to get him in NE.

$2-$3m and i wouldn't hate it, $4m-$6m i think is too much and it's actually insulting to guys like Butler who has slogged away for years making $600,000 and still hasn't been paid his money.

So we can't sign any free agents because Malcolm butler played well as an udfa?
Peterson is a hofer. His is it an insult to pay him whatcthe market says he is worth?
Personally I wouldn't pay him that much because RB isn't that important to our offense but I wouldn't reject players because of what udfas get paid.

Apparently the dude behind this account is a "converted" LOLphins fan and is a total douche to Pats fans. Grain of salt for him.
Yeah. Big danger these days. People post "sources" and many of them don't know jack.

Butler went from a guy nobody wanted to a guy who's going to get tens of millions of dollars guaranteed a year from now. He signed the deal he signed, it made sense at the time he signed it, and it's all going to work out for him long term. If he wants to get paid now, I'm sure the Pats would be willing to give him a long term extension with a bunch of guaranteed money starting yesterday, as long as he's willing to leave some money on the table in exchange for the security that provides.

That said, I'd also hate for us to bring in Peterson for that kind of money, just for different reasons.

It's funny. I got two tweets one right after the other and both polar opposites. I'm just having fun with this.

Haha, I know...and it's only Tuesday. Imagine how it'll be two days from now.
Also gotta be wary of people Tweeting sarcastically. Hard to decipher with so few characters but you'll have a guy with like 2 followers post "BREAKING" or "SOURCE" and it explodes.

At this point, I'll definitely take that. I would've loved for us to have locked him up before this, but given that he's hitting FA the only real question is whether or not he's interested in returning. As long as he is, we're still in pretty solid shape. If this is a McCourty situation, where he isn't willing to take a discount but will stick with us if we match the best offer he gets, then at least the ball will be in our court to decide if we want to keep him. That's much better than if he's unhappy and just wants to be gone, at least.

I'll be honest. I'd prefer Blount because of his ball security, his character and he didn't beat his kid's testicles with a whip.

I think he had one of his best years last year and if the Oline continues to improve he could have a better one this year or at least in a complementary sense.

So many posters hate it whenever a rumor of patriots going after an elite WR comes into play. It's perplexing. Why? If it makes a 40 year old Brady's job easier, then why aren't you for it? After all, our top 2 slot WRs next year will both be above 30 years old.

It's like all patriots posters here think elite WRs are all divas, and only Boy Scout types can succeed here.

I love the idea of having an elite WR for Brady, it just matters to me who it is and what type of receiver they are

Desean Jackson is an electric player, but if he's looking for top end money I'd rather it go to a bigger bodied WR that is younger
