Atlanta traded five draft picks to the Cleveland Browns to move up into their spot and take Jones, giving up their 27th, 59th, and 124th picks from the 2011 Draft, and their first and fourth round picks from the 2012 Draft... that's a lot of draft capital and the reason BB told Dimitroff, a former employee and friend not to do it. Those were picks that could have been used to improve the entire team.

Nope…that wasn’t BB’s point at all. His point was that Jones isn’t that much better than the next tier of WRs and named Jonathan Baldwin as an alternative. If BB had known how good Julio Jones would be, he never would have advised agaimst that trade.

For people here trying to spin the Julio Jones draft pick into a negative for Atlanta, claiming BB was correct and that Atlanta would have been better off not making that trade, you guys are just being beyond moronic, even for you.

Also, not that this matters to irrational BB groupies. but Atlanta traded all the way up from #27 to #6. The draft capital was much more about standard draft value than about a team gouging them. And Baldwin was taken with that traded pick (after Baltimore defaulted by not getting their pick in). He was a huge bust.

Is two first round picks more than one... just checking? Also multiple other picks were necessary to move up for Jones. If BB did it you would say it was dumb, he disagreed with Atlanta’s GM so it was smart... you’re pretty transparent.

BB told Dimitroff he wouldn’t do it and never has, he was using the next big WR on the draft board as an example and BB haters like you ran with “BB loved Baldwin.”

But provide with one example where BB moved up from the bottom of the first to the top, god knows we’ve picked at the bottom for two decades due to all this winning... surely there was one player BB thought was worth mortgaging all his draft capital for?

Fair I guess but he's on a cheap contract now. 15 and 12 per over the next few years I believe. I can't imagine going crazy for him. Plus if we're to believe him at face value, he wants to win. So there's potential for an easy compromise imo. Especially if Tennessee takes another step.

I think there must have been information exchanged about salary expectations. TEN was willing and able to move forward, others were not. Remember just a few days ago ATL was saying a first was on the table for him, now we see it wasn't. I think that had to do with salary expectations.

I have np at all with a HOF player that misses a game or two every now and then. It's football, players get hurt and miss time. Jones is still an elite WR and immediately the best player on our team.

32 years old and the durability trend line going the wrong way is an issue for me.

The last part of your post is a bit confusing considering by all indications they were in on Jones. WR has clearly been a point of emphasis the past few years.

They were in on Jones, but only on their terms. They had first bite at the FA apple and signed two WRs so it was not a position of need like your earlier post suggested.

Not really sure why this is so hard to believe for Chatham. The same man burned a first round pick on Harry when Brown, Metcalf, and McLaurin were all still on the board.

I think its okay. Let our Wide receivers develop further. I expect a significant break out year for Bourne and meyers.

As a overall offense we are far too versatile. I think there are two dark horses in our RB stable as well .. Stevenson and taylor.. so let's keep up the optimism. We don't need a legit WR1. One of our WR2 or wr 3 will step up. Besides the tight ends are huge upgrade . So if the qb play is a bit decent we are in with a chance with our ramming style offense...

Teams will have to defend against our up-the-middle strength, that will open up YAC opportunities for the RBs, TEs, and WRs we already have.

In a vacuum, I would love Julio here. No question he'd be big an upgrade to the WR room. But here's the thing. There has been a big uproar on the board for a "true #1 WR". But I would point out that this franchise has won 6 superbowls WITHOUT a "True #1 WR" and had been to another superbowl without one. In the brief 3 seasons WITH a "true #! wr" We managed only one superbowl appearance (though it should be noted that we only lost that one because copious omissions from the league appointed officials)

The Titans are a better team on paper than they were yesterday, of course, but they WILL have do some cap gymnastics to get him under the number. THey will also have to either redo his contract for MORE money long term, OR just keep him as a one year rental for 3 draft picks.

If the Titan go to the Superbowl this season then this move was a great one. If they don't.....then not so much. Time will tell. The biggest tell will be if during camp he looks like he has recovered his 2019 explosiveness. I'm sure we will all be watching, all our "I told you so's" ready regardless of where you stand on this move.

TL;DR: Stud WRs are great for Madden and Fantasy yet terrible for team building.

In half a season, Julio Jones had 771 yards in 2020. That’s:

• More than Kendrick Bourne’s career high
• More than Jakobi Meyers career high
• (Way) More than K’Keal Harry’s career high
• Not that far off from Nelson Algohor’s ($12M) huge breakout season in 2020 (Algohor played in every game)
• Almost 2x as many yards as Jonnu Smith’s ($12.5M) career high (Smith is a TE but more known for WR skills)

But now I guess it’s time to knock Jones for no longer being good while discussing value and dollars, while doing cartwheels for all the huge splash signings of much lesser players.

Yet the team that knows the most about him didn't prioritize making cap room for him, did prioritize keeping other younger players over him, and just let him go for a 2nd and moving up in the 4th.

They had some of the top ranked offenses in this time, but the defense always lagged behind. Could they have made a complete team with all the #1 draft picks they gave up for Julio Jones... more likely than not. They drafted well, the Julio trade gave them the best WR in the game, but it cost their future to make it happen.

Ticket sales, local advertising, sponsorships, etc are all impacted by the presence of stars.
How many Lions games would you have actually tuned into without Megatron, or Cardinal games without Fitzgerald.
Hell, the Pats gave a 56.3% passer a $100 mill extension because of his impact on the bottom line far more so than the win column.

So yes, multiple first round picks, technically, they traded two first round picks and got one back, so you could say they only traded one first round pick....

I think ATL's reasoning goes beyond just not being in a position to compete, it's also about JJ's age, health and salary demands.

A sensible team would want someone of his age and declining durability to come down on salary, not go up, yet it seems he wants to go up not down.

ATL probably signs him if he agrees to contracts like those signed by Smith, Algohor, Bourne, and Henry.

Beckham is a few years younger... BUT, he's a bigger diva, has a longer injury history, and (while flashy) is not as good a WR in totality as Jones. I'm not sure why they'd be more willing to overextend for him, given the two's contract situations seem pretty similar.
