Really hope Josh comes back soon, continues to get healthy, and excels as one of the NFL's top talents for at least a few years.

Even as a Jet fan who doesn't want to see Brady have a sick weapon... Gordon is too good to root against.

Hopefully playing with someone like Tom, who's obviously insanely motivated and willing to help on the field and off, will be the key to helping Gordon get on the right track.

Josh Gordon wins big in one genetic lottery (physical) and loses badly in another (brain chemistry). I suspect he'd rather they were reversed. He's operating in a society that shames mental health troubles and criminalizes self-medication with just about anything not developed by big pharma. His employer is about 30 years behind the science (when they aren't distorting science) and treats a performance-reducing drug similarly to performance-enhancing, body distorting drugs. He needs structure, routine, and the stress reduction of physical activity. But, no, let's cast him out of the tribe where he can get these things instead.

Yes, and, people who have spoken about victory re: food addiction point out that it is the one addiction that requires participation in the substance to which they are addicted. That adds a layer of complexity. Its like, "I've got to get over this addiction to oxygen!"

Victory seems to be about discovering the hormonal and emotional needs that are being created by, and met by, impulsive food attachments. Once that's discovered, and sufficient early warning radar put in place, it allow for the underlying issues to be addressed (depression, habits of despair, body image shame, etc.). And, of course (as you know), everyone's path is unique.

I’ve also battled obesity. I lost 120 lbs 10 years ago and it’s a continuous process. But I still use the surrender method whenever I get an urge to binge

But it is different than total abstinence

I should have added that for most addictive types, it takes an epiphany to finally get honest. For most, we have to get to the “sick & tired of being sick & tired” point to take action

For me, it was turning 50 and struggling to get up a flight of stairs, seeing my ankles & feet swell up and almost choking at night on acid reflux

But damn that half gallon of ice cream was good!

All of the research in the last decade has shown that there are many, many more factors in weight loss than a linear caloric calculation. Genes getting turned on and off by certain substances is fascinating, for example. And the work being done at Harvard on hunger cycles is equally interesting: if you allow your body to get hungry each day (16-18 hours without intake of anything that trips the glycemic response), you can literally eat more calories per day than if you don't. The body is complex and still not understood in many ways and the traditional nutritionist profession has been making a mess of things with their certainty, which changes every 5 years.

I wonder if in the early days, humans only ate once or twice a day? It is a fascinating topic. My company actually paid for all employees to get a DNA test that was nutritionally analyzed.

I'm down 70 lbs, not quite svelte but almost. For me it was recognizing a desire to augment a good time with bad food. Watching a Pats game? Let's throw in a pizza or a big bunch of nachos. Food as a reward. Food as an enhancement to a reward. More food than I should eat in a day for being good for part of a day, etc.

I'm actually finding that intermittent fasting + keto are the best for me. Because when I do eat it's great (keto is fantastic for savory food) and then I'm going on a year of not eating more than 200 calories before dinner time. It's still a struggle but if I want to get laid it has to happen.

Yes, but I think that IF is poorly named. It isn't about fasting, and there's nothing "intermittent" about it. It is just about creating a different relationship with food, and a different eating cycle.

Personally, when I choose to eat in a 6 hour window, I feel more free from food impulsivity than any other time. And the amount of time I save in a day is amazing (plus, money). Just having coffee or tea in the morning, and then just ignoring food until early afternoon, is tremendously empowering.

Part of my motivation is I'm perpetually pissed off about how modern marketing has turned the US population into a bunch of slaves who otherwise think they are exercising free will, so I'm a bit more grumpy about all that than most. My version of "Get off my lawn" is "Get out of my head!".

Anything to do with food consumption, IMO, has to involve staying off the internet or watching TV, as much as possible, which is where they hit you hard with that advertising crap- so you have to develop creative things to do with your time.

However that's a win-win situation isn't it? By staying away from TV and the internet, you're also staying off the couch.

I think they made the right move in offering the approx. 3m dollar tender. That’s cheap enough to where he’s either very affordable for a weapon like that, or he’s on the suspended list. Likely, it will be a combo of both.

It’s not like they signed him to a new, long term deal during an indefinite suspension. That would’ve been too risky. If he plays through the year and proves himself, then they’ll consider a longer deal with some type of language that protects the team.

I've no doubt that if he hadn't been such a quick study of the offense, plus hit it off well with Brady, they wouldn't be bothering. But the guy proved to be nearly plug-and-play, so why not have him as a late season option, especially if another WR gets hurt (which usually happens).

They won the SB with a great 5 game stretch.

If they could do it over a 19 game stretch without Gordon is a whole different discussion.

Maybe they had this stretch BECAUSE Gordon wasn't available anymore and instead of high upside playcalls with 50/50 balls (like that fourth down pass to Gordon against the Bears) they reverted back to be less vertical albeit with a higher completion rate.

We were and are a better football team with Gordon, that shouldn't be a discussion especially not over a full season.

Brady was much more efficient when throwing the ball when JG was on the field compared to when he was not. We went 8-2 with Josh and averaged 31 per game.

Lazar did some analysis on the Brady-Josh connection and basically on catches inside 15 yards his QBR was absurdly high and on throws > 15yds it stunk.
