Jets starting QB to be...Josh McCown?

The Jets' WORST move, far worse than taking on some stublebum retread like McCown, would be to waste picks trading up to get one of the QB mediocrities available in this year's draft. Which means, of course, that that is exactly what they'll do,

Is Darnold, like Sanchez or Barkley good?
I'm scared
Them USC qbs are savages!
He had a very good season, but Hackenberg looked like the next big thing after one season, too. Still, trying to project, I think he's going to be better than Sanchez or Leinart. Whether he's the next great one or not? I'm not sure.

i mean, McCcown is prob like a 2-3 yr guy max, but I do like him and think he is a decent starting QB in this league w/ a good coaching stuff and pieces around him...

alas lies the problem

Josh is pretty good, but I am not sure if he can make it through a full season

McCown is an excellent choice for a team looking to have its starter mentor it's legit developing backups. Now, if the Jets sign McCown, all they'll need is the legit developing backups.

I am totally mocking this potential signing, but you do bring up a good point, he is a really great leader and potential mentor, a guy many think will pursue coaching after his career is over. Which is why it's sad he's going to the most dysfunctional franchise in the league, one that could even ruin him.

For those who didn't see his presser after playing injured in Cleveland:

You hate to see bad things happen to good people. And few people are much better than Josh McCown, and few things are much worse than the New York Jets.

A perfect jet. 2-20 in his last 22 starts

If he signs with the Jets, he goes from McCown to McClown.

Houston and Denver outta be on that, he's not great but you can do worse. Solid backup at least. Worst case maybe he even starts if your young guys don't look good enough. He had two really nice seasons over the last like 4 years.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnddd he's gone.

I'm honestly beginning to believe that the Jets are going to try to throw the season to get into the Sam Darnold sweepstakes.

If the Jests try to tank the season they'll probably improve.

Week 17 of the 2017 NFL Season. The 14-1 Patriots have wrapped up home field advantage through the playoffs, and are at the Jets, who are tied for the worst record in the League.
Meanwhile, one college QB has been risen well above all the others this year, and is the hands-down favorite to be the #1 overall pick.
On Thursday, the Pats announce that the flu is running through the team, including all of the QB's on the roster. They've signed Tim Tebow to play in the last game of the season. Only 2 of the team's starters will be able to play.
The Jets win, 2-0, on a Tebow sack in the end zone.
The Jets end up picking #2 in the draft, and select another DE.

Brady must have put this thought into their head with his comment about age/experience and having seen it all. Look for the Jets to try and get McCown a nutritionist and some pliability training too.

then again, what do they have to lose.

If Polo were traded he would have been my choice as the backup QB to be signed...

I hate to see such a fate befall the poor guy. I'd rather see Kaepernick at the (rudderless) helm of an offense that wants to suck. After all, Kap's suckage is so multidimensional and comprehensive that he kinda belongs on a team like the Jets. It's a LOT harder to despise McCown. I'd be thrilled to watch the o-line shrug as Kaepernick is getting his block knocked off.

I was just about to post that they are going all in on a "Suck For Luck" kind of campaign. Deliberately sucking should be a capital crime in the NFL, no first round pick for at least three years and GM suspended for 5years. Pollian should have been banned for life.

McCown's agent is now saying he is signing with the Jets.
