If the OL continues to suck, what are Zappe’s chances to make the 53?

The problem is there is no guarantee Zappe stays on the PS. He's too good for the PS. He's an NFL backup with solid experience as a starter. He's won games. That's going to be exactly what some other team needs this season at some point. If you decide he goes to PS, you absolutely cannot plan on him being there if you need him. It's 53, or make some other plan which does not include Zappe.
Yeah, though this team isn’t going anywhere. I don’t think we win any more games with either third stringer.

But, we protect Drake Maye from getting mauled. As of now, Drake has not looked ready to play. I just don't see the sense in throwing him out there before he is ready and run all the attendant risks. You could throw Milton out there and enjoy his lasers to guys 10 feet away, but I doubt anyone wants that either. If Drake is ready to play midseason, cut Zappe then.

Not to the people who didn’t want them to pick him, they want him in there now. They want to be entertained.
"See? He sucks! Look at how well Bo Nix is playing. If we had just TRADED DOWN, we could have gotten Nix AND a LT!"

Id say the OL has no bearing. He has zero chance unless three qbs on the roster get hurt.
It'd be ironic if all 3 ahead of Z get hurt due to that garbage OL we have, and then they trot him out there. But if Mayo throws Maye out there behind this OL and he gets seriously injured because of it, I'm sure all the "play Drake" proponents will be saying how stupid that decision was. Or, they'll give the old trope, "That's football. Rough game!"

Milton and Maye should take all the snaps in PS game 3

Zappe should be released now to give him a chance to het picked up by another team
Milton should play the whole game, to maximize the chance of seeing him throw a ball right through the body of a receiver or DB 10 feet away. NFL history.

My bet is they will say” see, I told you he was fragile. I’m the only person who knew he was fragile. They never should have picked him, they should have traded down and taken Penix at #23.”

I don’t believe they should throw Maye out there behind this OL, and I doubt he knows the offense well enough to run it full time, but he showed the signs of why they drafted him at #3. He has a great arm, he’s athletic, and a threat to take off at any time, and he made smart plays when he was out there. If they handle him right he should turn into their franchise QB.

Maye played on a sore ankle for 4 weeks last year (“Against Virginia [when the losses started], in practice, he could barely walk.”) and that eventually turned into a full on ankle sprain/pull grade 1 the last game of the season. The Pats absolutely have to be careful here.

I agree. He's too good to be a PS lifer, and I just don't think he'll do it. He'd do well in Canada. His size isn't as much of an issue there, and he's a gunslinger, which fits the CFL style of play to a T.

He will be picked in no time if he goes to waivers. He is a solid back up in mould of minshew. Probably one of the better back ups in NFL now. He is definitely a top 50 QB as we speak.

Tbh brissett seems a downgrade to Zappe. If not for last season meltdown and collective fan anger and expectations of change.brissett is a wasted contract for this year.

Zappe's Greatest Hits ...

The OL coach will coach them up. What’s his name? Should be Cole Popovich.

There’s enough talent to work with. They’re 7 or even 8 legit nfl quality players.

And Captain Stone is right. Michael Jordan is one of them.

Are there any mall security jobs available for Mafi?

You only need five starters, they don't have any tackles. Hope lays in the young tackles development and ascension. We'll see if it happens before week one, time for the coaches to start pushing these rookies.

Michael Jordan is not a starter or even a quality player... the captain is stoned.

He's been in the league five years, if he wasn't excelling against a bunch of 3rd and 4th string guys it would be a problem.

He spent last season on a practice squad and didn't play in a single game. Good players play, or at least make a 53 man roster.

Yeah why would any team trade for him when putting him up on the trade block means the Pats are going to move him off the roster anyway. They can have him for free on waivers.
Maybe teams will get into a bidding war over him.

You lead the fight for Mafi over Jordan. We are talking about the 6th IOL position which might not even exist.

GUARD
You seem not to understand that the team chose to replace Mafi with Robinson and made a fine pick. We have our backup OG.

CENTER AND CENTER/GUARD
We need a backup center and a PERHAPS an 6th IOL center/guard. We had Jake as the backup center and Leverett as the backup G/C. Now that Jake is gone, we are lucky to have Jordan as a possible 6th IOL and perhaps as someone for the Practice Squad. Mafi has competed for these spots and has shown just how hopeless he is as a center, a skill critical for both positions.

I didn't lead anything. I said Mafi had to improve upon last year and prove he belonged.

I said Jordan was a jag... that's why he was on a practice squad the entire season last year. Mafi has been in the league one season, Jordan five seasons... if Jordan was going to make a big leap in performance it would have happened already.
GUARD

The team chose a guard knowing Cole Strange had a potentially career ending injury.

You also don't make a draft pick wondering if he'll be good enough to be a backup. You draft a guard and bring in 4-5 other guys and competition makes the decision for you.

Leverett will likely make the roster as the backup center, the injury to Jake Andrews secured his spot. They've tried every other guard at center because it's better to know now who has position versatility, it will help to determine who makes the roster and practice squad. We'll see who makes the 53. The best players will make the roster.

Totally agree. Some folks here still evaluate Z through the starting QB lens and can’t get away from that perspective. Brissett is a possession QB. Zappe is a gunslinger. I know which one I’d rather watch this season.
