Free Agent Signings around the League

Tate 5-years/$31M is an excellent value, his APY is the same as Amendola’s and he is a much more complete and dynamic WR.

Lions agreed to terms with WR Golden Tate, formerly of the Seahawks, on a five-year, $31 million contract.
The deal includes $13.25 million guaranteed. The Lions' quixotic quest to find a viable starter opposite Calvin Johnson ends. Tate was Rotoworld's No. 4 remaining receiver. Coming off a career year where he caught 64 passes for 898 yards and five scores, Tate's numbers have been suppressed by the Seahawks' run-heavy offense, but that won't be an issue in Detroit. A dynamo with the ball in his hands, Tate is most effective after the catch. Even with passing-mad OC Scott Linehan gone from the Motor City, the Lions will be throwing all day, every day in 2014. Tate will be a viable threat for his first 1,000-yard season. Mar 12 - 3:35 PM

They're different types of receivers but in terms of career production they were fairly similar when signing their contracts, so I'm not sure why you're trumpeting this as a victory in your inane quest. If anything, it's the opposite as you call him 'excellent value.'

And Tate also had the advantage of not playing on one of the worst teams in the league, unlike Amendola.

Vikings re-signed Joe Berger

Giants signed Curtis Painter

Cowboys designated Mile Austin release as post-June 1 for cap purposes

Lions signed exclusive-rights free agents Kris Durham and Matt Veldman

Titans offensive tackle David Stewart cut with failed physical designation

I am not sure if you heard but Amendola is my new favorite player now that the injury prone JAG Edelman is finally gone from this team.

You have a serious hard on for Danny though, as if you have a pager that goes off when someone says something that could be taken as negative.

Tate is a better receiver, he can do more outside, he can stretch the field, and he is an elite run blocker, but even more important than all of that he has played in 47 of a possible 48 games over the past 3 seasons. This is not even a discussion in my mind, Golden Tate is a far superior player than Amendola, nobody in their right mind would dispute that fact, and Tate being paid about the same as Amendola speaks to what a terrific signing he was or a poor signing Amendola was, you can pick whichever one you would like.

A
1: 21 rec, 227 yds, 0 td
2: 35 rec, 382 yds, 3 td
3: 45 rec, 688 yds, 7 td
4: 64 rec, 848 yds, 5 td

B
1: 43 rec, 326 yds, 1 td
2: 85 rec, 689 yds, 3 td
3: 5 rec, 45 yds, 0 td
4: 63 rec, 663 yds, 3 td

Receiver A getting a contract is "incredible value" while Receiver B getting the same contract was a complete unmitigated disaster in Brady6's space alien brain.

OK, I have to think we offered at least this to Edelman. That is cheap.

Ian Rapoport ?@RapSheet 47s

Jacoby Jones’ deal with the #Ravens is worth $14M over four years, per source.

Mike Neal says he is staying in Green Bay:

Bummer. Poor man's Lamarr Houston.

Uggh.

Makes signing a guy like Wesley Woodyard and/or Matt Shaugnessey a bit more important now, as that's one less reasonably priced option available. Woodyard was very good until Denver tried to move from the outside to MLB. The other options at DE are either high priced (Jared Allen), better against the run than as pass rushers (Robert Ayers), older, declining, injury prone (Justin Tuck), leaving guys like Neal and Shaugnessey. There are only so many guys under 30 worth picking up.

No big deal just kind of funny ... the Browns board:

Pats were interested in Sanders before...now he is visiting with other teams...seems to be no interest now

Cap jumping to over $130m

I don't think it's quite as clear as you seem to feel, but again--that's an opinionated matter.

We've seen the salary cap spike before, and the thought of it rising from 123m to above 130m shouldn't automatically mean that it's now a no-brainer to go out and give someone who has a chronic injury concern the most guaranteed money that's ever been seen to a CB.

I respect your thoughts of course, but I think there's enough grey area that it's only natural to question such a major amount of money. Had they given him the same AAV with less guaranteed money over a smaller 3-4 yr deal, it'd have made a lot more sense to assume that it's due to the spike in the cap.

Don't know if this has been reported here, but Steve Smith was released a short while ago, according to NFLN.

Didn't catch who it was, but he was saying, 'Can you imagine Smith in the slot role in NEw England with his YAC potential?"

Yeah, sounds like a plan.
