I believe that Deshaun Watson believes that he did nothing wrong. He has no remorse because he doesn't see that he did anything to be remorseful for. That's not justice in any sense of the word.... Its also not an expression of a meaningful stance on sexual assault by the NFL... its no less a whitewashing of the incident than the six game suspension was...

So, please, spare me your righteous indignation and "ugh" commentary over something as meaningless as adding 5 games to the suspension...

What the hell does this even mean? Your post made it sound as though your primary concern was that the Brown might go get JG and somehow be more competitive. For the record, adding 5 games was not enough.

A couple thoughts.

1 Even this extended suspension is woefully lenient for someone who committed, in the NFL's own words, "egregious and predatory" actions. The words simply don't match the suspension.

2. His continued claim of "innocence" is even more troubling. His after the fact remarks of remorse reek of something he was forced to say by some flack at some spin master PR firm.

3. Watson and HIS team have won. He gets 99% of his money. He can take most of this year off and STILL get paid, much like he did last season. To his followers he becomes a victim of the system, and he will continue to maintain his innocence all the way to the bank.

4. I CANNOT believe that the NFL didn't put in a clause to the settlement agreement that forbade Watson from proclaiming his innocence. If they had they wouldn't have to deal with blowback from Watson's mixed messaging.

So I looked up the actual explicit allegations (I'm low information on this because I haven't really cared to follow the story). The worst of it according to the NY Times was the following:

Two of the cases included claims of sexual assault: Watson was said in both cases to have pressured women to perform oral sex during massages and was accused in one of also having grabbed a woman’s buttocks and vagina.

Two grand juries chose not to indict him criminally (but look out ham sandwiches).

Not ready to call him Bill Cosby. Pressuring a woman into oral sex is not rape - and that is seemingly only alleged by 2 of these women. Touching them while they're engaged in the above act? Seems like a natural progression in the circumstances.

I expect all these women were paid well by Watson. I expect most of them, if not all, had done the same thing before. Just not to a rich guy like Watson.

He comes across as a creep, fine. But nothing I read led me to believe he's a rapist and it still looks like a cash grab to me.

Seems to me like you're steering yourself to a conclusion you want to reach.

Instead of figuring out what the actual charges were, you go by what some uninformed dude blurts out in a bar, rape.

Nope, the charges were sexual assault, and one form of sexual assault under the statutes is unwanted sexual contact.

Totally different situation than rape, which was not being alleged.

As for the ham sandwich, that old trope doesn't apply in these kinds of cases, they are notoriously difficult to prove.

Often they are "he said, she said", and in this case the "he" is rich and famous so often gets a bunch of sympathy the average schmoo doesn't get.

Heck, they even had video of Kraft getting his HJ and they couldn't make a case.

You really should read more about what kind of "touching" went on.

He did the "small towel over the junk" trick routinely, asked for work on his crotch, got aroused, often initiated contact.

And in at least one case, the following is alleged.

J, the cops that investigated felt their was more than enough evidence to indict him criminally. The grand juries that failed to indict took testimony from only ONE of the complainants in each time. They never heard the breadth of his actions only a "he said she said" case against a local football hero. The NFL's chief investigator called his actions "egregious and predatory" and she only reviewed 4 cases, which meant there was 26 NOT reviewed

I do reprimand you for your "they were well paid" comment. So I guess if someone raped or abused YOUR wife or girlfriend, but left a stack of hundreds on her body it would make OK? I mean she WAS well paid.

Finally, the fact he showed no real remorse and continued HIS "big lie" by maintaining his innocence, damns him even further AND makes it even more likely this will happen in the future. No question Watson "won" He will miss 11 games and STILL make over $40MM this year despite that joke of a fine. The thing is when a sexual predator gets away with his crimes it only emboldens him more. This isn't the last we will hear about Deshaun Watson and sexual abuse.
