I hate to interrupt politics and debates, but some news on the coronavirus in our household. They gave my son an inhaler prescription. Unfortunately there is no pharmacy with it on hand. He had to go with an expensive newer one that insurance doesn’t cover. They’re underreporting the infections in our area. The doctor I saw said he had more positive results in our area by himself than what’s being reported. Tests are hard to come by and it takes up to a week to get the results. I’m not sure what to make of it all. I guess our public health and healthcare system just aren’t setup for this kind of event. I don’t care what my test results come back as. They only treat the symptoms anyway. I’m staying away from people. I’m on leave from work. My employer is trying to find Tylenol and mucinex for us. It’s sold out everywhere.

It has to be their strategy to suppress results. I think it's stupid and dangerous. Hope you find your meds. Stay safe.

You asked for my degree and I humored you.

When I asked you to clarify your remarks regarding COVID (which are completely unrelated to my education) you asked me to state where my degree is from.

If you’re going to divert a conversation on a football messageboard about COVID into an inquiry about someone’s education, that means you have no interest in having an honest discussion.

Holy **** if @Ice_Ice_Brady didnt call it perfectly.
Scouting report on Non good faith argument 101-

Choose a stance you like, face a rebuttal, deny data, deflect with polling, rinse and repeat.

Using polling data is just like science, except replacing certified experts, mathematics and facts with unsubstantiated non-bias questionnaires and respondents.

Sprinkle in a little absurdity and call it good.

March 16th, a week ago, was when you said this; at the time you posted this, total deaths in the U.S. was 86.

The U.S. is now at 582 deaths and counting. That number, barring an act of god, will crest 1,000 total deaths before the end of this week. Hell, we might even see 1,000 deaths this week alone.

Are we allowed to talk about Trump's response being inadequate yet?

You might be thinking of me. I did not say I "felt" anything. I told you what the numbers were.

One week ago Sunday the number of U.S. coronavirus deaths was 60.
    On 3/22, the number was 300, which is 5 x 60.
I pointed out that if the fivefold increase was not a glitch and persisted for four additional weeks, these are the outcomes:
    3/29....1,500
    4/5...7,500
    4/12...37,500
    4/19...187,500

I am on Team Humanity, and am not rooting for these outcomes.

However, as others have pointed out, you keep minimizing the possibilities, but ignoring the numbers.

What developments on the ground do you think will interrupt the observed progression to date? Because this Sunday - 2 days ago, in the a.m. - the count was about 300.

As of this morning, we're at 582. It is the morning of 3/24/2020.

What intervention do you think is going to stop the numbers from getting to 1,500?

We have some half-ass lockdown-ish measures in effect and some shutdown measures (e.g., no theatres, no airplane flights...) These are an intervention, and might result in a flattened curve... but so far, no go. I would be surprised if we don't get to or close to that 1,500 by Sunday, but I don't know how effective our "lockdown" measures would be, and I don't know when they'll be reflected in the deaths total.

That's question 1: What do you think is going to stop the numbers from getting higher?

Question 2: What measure do you suggest we introduce instead of these measures (and more) in order to reduce the death toll? Prayer? Finger-crossing? "Euthanasia" so that it's a quicker, more merciful death?

Because you're just acting like the numbers we observe are not the numbers we should expect, and like we're allllll supposed to play make-believe like you are.

Once again, it's 3/24, and we're at 582 deaths. Is there any time when you'll feel stupid minimizing the fact that numbers are very likely to continue to increase, and that increase has thus far been exponential, in keeping with a contagious disease?

What's the evidence you'd cite that this exponential increase in deaths will stop?

I just want to see how smart you are since you are adamant you are 100% right about everything so far. I would like to know what kind of a mind I am dealing with. Getting into UVA as an in-state student from Charlottesville should have been a slam dunk for you. I got in out-of-state, which is much harder, but I digress. If you went to an even better school, then the more respect I have for you.

There is evidence supporting allowing the young & healthy to socialize & work can actually kill off this virus. As long as they don’t interact with those most vulnerable.

interesting article from NY Times and it makes sense to me.

If someone disagrees, please state your reasons! I’m ok with older people sacrificing...especially since I’m an old guy

How about looking at the Johns Hopkins Study that put the US 1st overall in readiness to respond to a pandemic? Even though the study said that all nations could do better, the US was still at the top. Not saying the US was perfect, but this idea that the US had no clue is not 100% right.

US was more prepared for pandemic than any other country, Johns Hopkins study found

The problem now is how much to blame Trump for these deaths and how much to blame the people who aren't listening to the quarantine orders if there are major spikes? Is it his fault that there are people going to the beaches in Florida, or is that the governor's responsibility to shut the beaches down? There's plenty of blame to go around. You seem to want to point the finger 100% to the President, which is more partisan than anything.

Some experts are more optimistic, so it's not universal doom and gloom. I'm not saying the curve won't match Italy's, but experts say that we won't see the effects of social distancing for another 10-14 days. I am not being dismissive of your concerns (as you assume), but rather am taking a wait and see approach.

Just my opinion....this was a good idea! It minimizes late night (alcohol influenced) posting.

I support a daily 11pm curfew on this topic!:)
