Patriots Player Departure Conflicting reports on who was repsonsible for the decision to trade Jimmy (Kraft or Belichick???)

Not to be a ****, but I don't see how it matters. What's done is done. If we gave up JG for a 40 year old QB and jimmy turns out to be a top five QB and we, like the majority of teams, struggle to find a competent replacement for Brady, we will mark that as the turning point, the beginning of the end of our dynasty. But what's the difference who's fault it is?

This move goes completely against the way Bill operates. So I find it credible. Is it true? Hell if I know. Nor do I care. All that matter is in a few years we are very likely like the rest of the league and have a lousy QB.

So you're telling me we cant find a qb as good as Jimmy G in the next three drafts?

Keeping Brady was the right decision. I like JG, but the guy is unproven. Brady is the GOAT and I care about rings.

People need to understand that we are going to have losing seasons eventually. Its inevitable. Why not sit back and enjoy the GOAT even if its only 2 more seasons?

LOL, Mr pessimistic always has a glass half empty opinion. KRAFT will probably hire Rod Rusts grandkid to coach the team after BB retires too.

That “ 40 year old QB “ has won two of the last 3 Super Bowl’s and is acknowledged by his peers to be the best player in football right now, had been the best player in football the past 5 years, and is the greatest player of all time. Although I’m sure it was easy for you to overlook that with your head all the way up Jimmy Garrapolo’s ass. Enjoy rooting for the 49er’s .

I think you may have misread his point. I think he is saying that IF TB turns into just another 40 Y/O QB what difference does it make who decided to send JAG away. I don't think he's implying Brady is on the decline or Jimmy is the next brady or any of that, just that IF that happens, who cares about who decided to make the trade it's done.

That's what I thought too until he didn't show up In court to support Brady during deflategate.

I think that we are too close to the situation. Kraft is first and foremost an owner, a member of the group of NFL owners. You can call it "support" if you wish. Kraft would call it business. But, it was Kraft who made the decisions. He thought it was better for the league and the business to take the penalty without a great fight.
Many would think that this was a correct analysis.

BTW, you might have misunderstood me. I would not have been shocked to see BRADY traded (after the year) to SF, with Kraft's blessings. I believe that Kraft would have done this only if Brady were declining and Bill really wanted JAG. I suspect that Kraft would have had a long, long talk with Brady who would have likely accepted the trade. The alternative would have been playing for a team without Belichick, and perhaps other coaches. HOWEVER, if Bill suggested a trade to CLE or any other teams, I suggest that Kraft would have vetoed the trade.

Kraft and BB have been talking about this for years........they are likely on the same page regarding action taken based on existing result......Brady has still shown zero decline, and if there is zero decline, he is the first option.....they held on for as long as they could with the second option, but in the end, he's still the 2nd option......

there will be no 'shoulda coulda woulda' even if Brady goes down next week......it will simply come down to timing and matters out of anyone's control

Now that they’re starting over from scratch on the Brady succession plan, I expect him to leave with Brady whereas I didn’t expect that before.

BB is 65, been coaching for a long time and enjoys the finer things in life now. I wouldn't be shocked if he retires and then if he gets bored, he comes back as a President who oversees everything in the organization

Butler became more important when Gilmore did not perform to the expected level

Except this makes no sense because Butler hasn't performed at the expected level so far this season. For some reason people want to ignore he's given up a TD in each of the last 3 games and they were plays that he looked bad and in the last game he and Gilmore both played in together Gilmore played better.

I don't believe that Bill would consider trading a healthy & productive Brady until together they have won #6, if not #7.

I don’t see that at all, he said “we gave up Jimmy G for a 40 year old QB,” he didn’t qualify it at all.

Brady is already a “ 40 year old QB” and he’s still as good as it gets, the cliff thing has been disproven entirely.

Why would he trade a healthy and productive Brady under any circumstances.
Certainly 2 more rings isn’t going to make him more willing to dump him.

I'll take a few years of possibly sucking as the price to pay for a chance to win another Super Bowl or 2 with Brady.

I go back to the memory of 2001/2002 - I simply never thought we would ever win a Super Bowl and then we won 5.

100% agreed. If Brady gets us 2 more rings that is better than jags career and 1 more probably is too.

Lets not forget it’s not jag or play without a qb. It’s unproven jag vs the best guy we can find for the job once Brady is done. That guy could certainly be better than jag.

Jimmy has talent and intelligence but he has to prove he can stay healthy - so far he has had trouble in that area.
Too many quick to anoint him to be great - many QB's with potential could not survive the rigors of the position.

I hope Jimmy does - he'll be good for the league and he deserves a good career.

Wow. Spending time on this bllshit. Sounds like something fell on this guys head, not lap.

Hoyer is as good or better as a backup right now, then they go out and get a QB to groom. People don't think they can groom a qb? Besides their own pick, they could pick up a high pick someone else has half wrecked.

I’ll stop short of saying he deserves a good career because you have to go out and earn it. There are lots of nice guys out there who don’t have good careers.

I’m with ya. I really liked Jimmy (still do and will root for him in SF) but if you said I could either have only 2 more years of Brady or trade him now and move on with Jimmy, I will take Brady every time. I would rather take 2 more years of Brady and then watch the Pats suck horribly for the next 10 years than move on from Brady before he’s ready to hang them up. The dude is the GOAT.

Brady is not just another player no matter how many times B.B. wants to say it. Brady isn’t just great, he’s the GOAT. There have been a ton of Patriot greats, not many GOAT’s.
