Reflecting better probably the Real question is the timing...this "last minute " decision with the season ready to go put really in jeopardy everything...

Pity As the League lost a great playier too

I hate the Indy fans. They all remind me of Helen Lovejoy from the Simpsons. They are small minded provincial idiots. Manning played his goober act and Dungy played saint Tony which they ate up. Luck who is a good guy and was too smart and worldly for Indy fans (grew up in DC, London and Frankfurt).

Felger has admitted, on more than one occasion, that he's just a troll. The sad thing is that he keeps getting ratings because his trolling plays to the suckers in the N.E. sports fan base.

Reading a leaked tweet that your star player is retiring during a game is going to piss people off. The Colts and Luck should have handled it better and got in front of any chance of a leak. And for Brady let’s hope his retirement is done correctly and in another couple years.

Good point. I remember that Brady has had shoulder surgery in a couple off seasons, may not have been as serious but I am pretty sure he did.

Don’t worry, Tom, you’re in good company. He misinterpreted mine (complete with laughing emoji to denote humor) too. It’s not worth the 5 pages of subsequent back and forths to even engage. He searches out cab rides to argue their driving routes.

The sort of arrogant stupidity that's wrapped into that post is a big part of why 31 NFL fan bases hate the Patriots fan base.

I agree. Moreover, Brady not only took team friendly contacts to help get other players, he didn't raise the roof (at least in public) when, until perhaps 2-3 years ago (when Brady entered his forties), the Pats focused their draft resources on defensive players and assumed that between Scar and Brady the offense would end up championship quality anyway. It worked.

In contrast, someone like Peyton Manning would NEVER have put up with something like that, and the Colts always surrounded Manning with the best receivers and pass protectors. Plus, I think that the way that Manning always so clearly demonstrated that "I'm in charge of this offense" was disrespectful of his coaches. Some years ago before Brady won his last 3 rings, I even remember guys like Bill Simmons arguing that this was one of Manning's strengths over Brady, being willing to demand everything revolve around him (putting priority on drafting top receivers and pass protectors, etc.). Of course, after Brady's last three rings nobody argues he isn't the GOAT now, rightly so.

I think Luck was pretty respectful of the Colts authority over him, just like Brady. Unfortunately, unlike the Manning years where the Colts had an average-to-somewhat decent front office under Bill Polian, Luck came in under what was clearly the worst and most dysfunctional front offices in the League under Grigson, hired by arguably the worst owner in the league. They didn't leave any stone unturned when it came to lousiness: terrible drafting (after Luck fell in their laps), idiotic trades (like a first for Trent Richardson) and just a terrible finger-pointing toxic environment between the front office and the coaches and players. Luck tried his best, but he was beat up physically by the lack of support (especially OL) and probably emotionally by the lack of front office support (remember how many times the front office indicated he wasn't injured enough to not be playing?).

Unfortunately (for the Pats) the Colts finally woke up and hired a pretty competent manager in Chris Ballard who immediately started improving the team. But by then I think that Luck had just been beaten down for too long, it just wasn't fun to play anymore. I wish him a good life now, I think he gave it his best, he just had the terrible luck to land in the worst organization in the league.

29 year old starting NFL QBs don't usually abruptly retire. Its on the colts front office for not protecting their QB. Sure their O line is better now but the damage is already done. O lineman draft picks are boring but they are super important because a QB that gets hit too much will not last long. I think cam newton is next because he has also taken a **** ton of hits.

That bag of draft suck is not going to be anything but a bag of draft suck. It's not going to matter how you try to sugar coat it.

I see Luck inherited the Manning excuses of O-lines and defense.

I'd like to say you used to be the kind of guy who would refrain from calling 30-year-old Luck the best 'young' QB in the league when he's not even the best QB in his own draft class, but I'm not sure that's true. You've always been the guy to pass off your opinions as facts and double down then resort to ad hominems when that's pointed out, so I can't really say anything's changed.
