Patriots TE's Hernandez and Coates to Be Honored Tonight at Pop Warner Event

There's a terrific event going on this evening, which will feature one current Patriot and one former player being honored at the 2013 Pop Warner All-American Scholastic Banquet that will take place tonight at the Boston Marriott Copley Place from 6:30pm - 9:30pm.

The annual event honors the scholastic accomplishments of Pop Warner's All-American student athletes and recognizes notable professional athletes who serve as role models to Pop Warner's youth.

According to the release current Patriot Aaron Hernandez will accept the Pop Warner Inspiration to Youth Award, presented to an individual who has inspired the youth of today to become great achievers of tomorrow. Past recipients include Matt Forte, Julian Edelman, Wes Welker, Kurt Warner and Drew Bledsoe.

Meanwhile, many will likely remember former tight end Ben Coates, who will accept the Pop Warner Humanitarian Award, given to an individual who has portrayed both outstanding athletic achievement and high humanitarian principles while serving as an inspiration to the youth of today. Past honorees include Matt Light, Santana and Sinorice Moss and Antonio Freeman.

POP WARNER TO HONOR AARON HERNANDEZ, BEN COATES, NANCY KERRIGAN, ALFRED MORRIS AND NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS AT 53rd ANNUAL ALL-AMERICAN SCHOLASTIC BANQUET


2013 honorees recognized for their commitment to academics, athletics and our nation's youth


BOSTON, Mass.  (May 23, 2013) -- Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc., the nation's largest and oldest youth football, cheer and dance organization, today announced the 2013 Pop Warner All-American Scholastic Banquet honorees which include: New England Patriots tight end, Aaron Hernandez; Patriots Hall of Famer and former tight end, Ben Coates; two-time Olympic medalist figure skater, Nancy Kerrigan; Washington Redskins running back, Alfred Morris; and the New England Patriots.

The annual event honors the scholastic accomplishments of Pop Warner's All-American student athletes and recognizes notable professional athletes who serve as role models to Pop Warner's youth. Pop Warner annually honors nine thousand of its young participants as All-American Scholars, and grants an average of $100,000 in annual scholarships with its one-millionth scholarship dollar awarded in 2012. Pop Warner is the only national youth sports organization that requires its participants to perform in the classroom before permitting them to play.

Hernandez will accept the Pop Warner Inspiration to Youth Award, presented to an individual who has inspired the youth of today to become great achievers of tomorrow. Past recipients include Matt Forte, Julian Edelman, Wes Welker, Kurt Warner and Drew Bledsoe.

Coates will accept the Pop Warner Humanitarian Award, given to an individual who has portrayed both outstanding athletic achievement and high humanitarian principles while serving as an inspiration to the youth of today. Past honorees include Matt Light, Santana and Sinorice Moss and Antonio Freeman.

Kerrigan will accept the Female Achievement Award, presented to a woman who has demonstrated remarkable strength of character and leadership in attaining achievements in her life that inspire others. Past honorees include Pat Summitt, Summer Sanders, Natalie Coughlin, Paula Abdul and Kerri Strug.

Morris will accept the Gold Football Award, given to an individual with a distinguished record of service to youth, community, and humanity. Past recipients include John O'Leary, Pat McInally and Dick Vermeil.

The New England Patriots will be honored with the NFL Team of the Year Award, presented annually to a team that has demonstrated commitment and support of Pop Warner both locally and nationally.
