NFLPA Director warns players and agents to get ready for year long lockout

Watcha guys think of this rule i created. Pls, name calling is okay, but bad rating hurt my lil feelings

I think they should make an Salaray exempt rule:

One player of the roster gets its salary exempted (SE).
Here is the effects i think it will have

- it would Skyrocket QBs salary

- Teams without QBs would make other players their SE. that means top shelf players would try to maximize their offers for best bidder AND players available would command less money (Less inflated market long term. For short term see below)

- It would immediately create a huge amount of flow of cash for players. More players will be paid more, and there will be more distribution among every level of players. (so, yes there would be big boom of salaries at first, which sounds bad, buuut...)

- Since the SE player doesn't count, there would still a lot of cap available to bring players. I'd say with more flexibility.

And why would it all benefit the league?

Teams on rebuild generally have huge cap space. With a SE, they would be able to get a big name on FA and still acquire more talent.

Would GREATLY reward good management, since there would be more flexibility

Whatcha guys think?
It conflicts with the basic concept of having a salary cap.

Unfortunately the NFLPA isn’t strong enough to win any labor battle and they know it. So it won’t actually come to missing games.

Refusing to play or show up is the only card the NFLPA has.

No NFL players and no NFL product unless youre ok with a watered downed whiskey. Its well documented that the NFLPA got bent over by the owners last time and they know it. Fool me once shame on you and fool me twice shame on you.

This time the NFLPA goes after the paper money and not more days off and extra towels.

And dont think that the NFLPA has forgotten about their pal Kapernick either.

I think the big thing they will fight for will be fully guaranteed contracts like the NBA and MLB have.

Hopefully not, the league is much better when guys are fighting for their jobs.

I doubt it. The nflpa doesn’t really seem to think that’s an important issue.

Sad but true. Fight for something that is sure to effect me over something that’s unlikely to effect me. Even if it’s an egregious misuse of power and more worthy of a fight.

You can’t cut injured players (unless there’s a settlement), so that’s irrelevant.

You can cut players for failed physicals, so it's not irrelevant.

Up to a certain point. 49ers can bail on Jimmy G after next year.

That doesn't mean that they are not accountable for the contract. You seem to be trying to make points by using the wrong language for those points.

OK, so what will we adults do?
I’d finally be forced to jump into that long term alcohol binge that I’ve been putting off for years.

Or.... we can just switch over to becoming a “Revolution” forum.

What's Revolution? You mean the soccer team?

We know the Jets still will suck even if the players are on strike -- we always can talk about that. The only problem is their fans will be insufferably happy with an extended off-season to enjoy. But maybe we'll get lucky and their management will find a way to screw that up too, just like this year.

I've been preparing for this for a while. We all know its going to happen. Hopefully, if it does happen, I am hoping for a good year of Playstation exclusive games and some great game releases to pass the time until football comes back!

NFLPA Executive Director Warns Players And Agents To Get Ready For Year Long Lockout
It's not happening. This is just posturing. Oh sure, there will be a lockout and/or strike for training camp and the preseason.... but the players will cave like they always do.

If contracts are fully guaranteed in the NFL, then the dollar values of contracts will decrease dramatically. It isn't like players will be getting the same deals.

Theres too many players on the rosters to make all contracts guaranteed but the players should get a bigger piece of the pie. Some owners are greedy SOBs and will hold out for every last dollar, look at the deflategate fiasco, it was a bunch of cry baby millionaires that caused it. Give more to the players.

Sad thread. Does anyone here have a favorite CFL team?

It’s the same thing though. It’s still a zero sum gain. If a guy who gets cut had a guaranteed salary he still has to be paid taking that money off the cap. If he keeps his job because his salary is guaranteed a different player is out of work.

Not sure why you think it’s surprising that teams evaluate a players worth similarly or why the team that cuts them would have any clue or care what the players value is to another team. If you aren’t worth what I am paying you to me, I don’t care in the least what anyone else thinks you are worth.

It is indeed a zero sum game. If you've rather pay more to the players who aren't producing rather than those who are, then have guaranteed contracts. The NFL can then become more like the NBA which does a lot of manuevering on dumping contracts instead of actually trying to build a winning team.

More guaranteed contracts also means an average decrease in motivation; it's just human nature. When your football life is on the line, players are motivated. When it's guaranteed, not as much. The culture of the NFL would change significantly if all contracts were guaranteed - and it would change for the worse.

We see these impacts in other sports that have guaranteed contracts. I'm not sure why some seem to ignore these downsides when considering this.

They should be paid for production instead of gtd money. For example: if a team make into playoff, they should look to the players real BS or whatever money he is accounted for that season and and see how much he makes a game and all the players the make the 46 man roster will get a % of that money, thet other guys will make 100k i don't know. Guys will fight for millions and teams will spend 25% more tops. So 50m more tops, for the owners for a team that makes SB is pennies. Gtd salary is bad. 80% will make way less money, and almost all contracts will have gtd BS + a LOT of incentives. So basically they will make less money, bubble guys will make more and guys that rotate will make less.

Football is different. The average football life of a player is like three years and except for a few stars, the risk of not having a job when the game returns is higher than other sports.

But a strike in three years might be a huge advantage for Tom Brady and the Patriots, IF it is not season long.

Give a 45 year old a short eight game season with a team that will be best prepared to come out of a strike. That is almost best case for us.

Pats win #7 in ‘19
Brady retires
Pats tank in ‘20....get the #1 draft pick
No season in ‘21
Pats remain slotted at #1 in the next draft
Pats get Clemson QB among others during the stoppage and the team is set for the next dozen years +

This is easy

I am guessing the whole reason for the year long stoppage will be because of Article 46! Goodell wont give up his power! I fully expect a year without football!

goodell doesn't have a choice.........it's up to the owners
