Report: Browns and 1st rounder for Garappollo (Maybe Yes or No or Who Knows)EDIT

Browns reportedly rejected by Patriots after trying to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo again

This is one of many stories that were run leading up to and just after the draft. The 12th pick in the draft was constantly being floated as a starting point.
Where does it say the 12th puck was offered? People were guessing that is what it would take, no one ever says it was offered.
Did you read the article?

It stands to reason at that point the Browns picked up the phone and called New England to try and figure out if a deal was still possible, potentially by packaging No. 12 overall and a bunch of second-round picks.
“It stands to reason” isn’t reporting something happened. Your source is reading other people’s opinion and using that to create his own.

And regarding those trade offers during the 2017 draft season, there's this from Ian Rapoport:

He's not Adam Schefter but has proven to be reasonably accurate with his scoops. Moreso than Seth Withersham.

I saw that, but found it interesting that it came out after Jimmy was traded.

These people have "sources" which is more than just rumor or speculation.

No. He didn’t get anything from a source. He said “it stands to reason”. He based that on reading other people’s speculation.

Rapaport is now saying a first was not offered.

You do understand that “a source” saying something doesn’t make it true right?
Otherwise how do you explain conflicting reports all being attributed to sources.

After going 1-31 and getting fired, are you seriously telling me that I should take anything out if sashi Browns mouth as iron clad fact and nut a guy trying to repair his horrible image.

After brady became the goat polish suddenly started telling people he had a first round grade in human.
After being fired because he couldn’t get a qb, botching the trade he did make to get one, and seeing the guy people thought he should have traded for look good on his new team, Brown suddenly would have given up a 1.

Naive much?

And by the way, do you honestly believe that GMs and front office personnel call reporters to tell them what they are offering, what the other team wants, and how the whole negotiations went?

And once again a key element in the Garappolo trade is to answer the question, "who was going to be the backup when Garappolo gets traded. No one I suppose, if he goes to Cleveland. WHY the F*ck doesn't anyone in the media pick this up. A big reason Jimmy went to SF is because they could make a quid pro quo that would net us a QB who knows the langue, culture and system and is a capable back up QB in Brian Hoyer.

Anyone to doesn't think the actual trade was SF's 2nd AND Bryan Hoyer isn't being realistic.

When is the last time a backup QB was traded for a top 5 draft pick? It doesn’t matter how good Jimmy Garoppolo is he had half a season left on his contract and now the team needs to pay $25M a season to retain him. We traded 7 games for a top 50 draft pick. Maybe someone would have paid more in the offseason when they could have brought him into camp and had a legit chance to compete with him as the starter for the whole season. Being able to franchise a player doesn’t isn’t the same as having them under contract.

Was out and about listening to sports talk radio yesterday, and "Cubby Bertram" came on expounding his conspiracy theory based on Sashi Browns comments.. then he went into an unhinged tirade about how BB is not doing his "job".. of course that person who knows the situation best, Zolak, was noticeably silent, again..

Turned off the BS and got to thinking, do these sportstalk folks want to get rid of BB and run him out of town, if so what is the reason??? They get hung up on that there really is a Patriot of the Week as some sort of litmus test for the Wickersham article... unfortunately I was naive, once again, to think there might be some talk about the Titans and what type of foe they are...

Do not understand the smartest football guy in the room, Zolak, can continue to be silent and not redirect this idiotic banter...,. sports talk radio has descended into a very dark hole that is laced with unsubstantiated conspiracy theories...

First of all, there is a 0.0% chance of mindless loudmouths like Blubber Bertrand running BB out of town.

Second, that is his thing. He's not a journalist. He's not an author. He's not a play by play guy. He's not a fmr player. His whole purpose in life is to eat, eat, eat and stir the pot and eat some more.

They seem to be trying hard, not sure it could ever be successful.. as mentioned I do not understand the silence of Zolak and their reasoning to continue to beg issues and create conflict and avoid football issues facing the Patriots on Saturday nite..

What bothers me most is the complicity of Zolak through his silence... I expected more.

I think Zo lets Blubber flap his chins so he can keep his distance and not piss off his Patriot connections.

Maybe it's better to let Bertrand rant like an uneducated moron, than to potentially reveal a private conversation he had with someone.

If the Browns offered a 1st, they should've taken it.

If Jimmy G is the real deal like it seems he is (and at the time of the trade BB had only 2 games but 4 years of training observation so I trust his judgement) you trade him out of the conference, period. Multiple first round picks can't offset the possibility of facing a top QB in the playoffs every year.

Look at almost all AFC teams in the past 5 years or so and how they look upon a season, their goal is to make the playoffs, nothing else. They know they don't stand a chance against the Patriots in normal circumstances, except for some loaded Ravens, Steelers and Broncos teams, and they can't field loaded teams constantly, no one can.
The Steelers since Big Ben came into the league had 2 or 3 short windows being SB contender including this current one, alternating with some bad years. The Ravens until they had to pay Flacco was a contender as well, but even being a joke since then, it's one of the few teams "any given sunday" can happen, they have playoff pedigree. The Broncos had a 2 or 3 year window with Manning and now is a joke. All the other teams in the AFC know they will have to wait Brady retire to compete. I laugh at the possibility of Chargers, Texans, Colts, Raiders to aim a SB as their goal for the season.

Apart from those rebuilding years between 2008-2010 when teams maybe faced the season with a different mentality, the reality is that BB is putting together stronger teams after stronger teams every year. Even when they don't hit entirely on a draft they don't make the team weaker either, there's always a piece or 2 added to an already stronger roster from the previous year. All that added to the fact that our QB is the GOAT, its a nightmare for other teams.

In the NFC the closest thing to this is Aaron Rodgers but the Packers are nowhere near being in the same situation as the Patriots. The Seahawks are commanding the NFC in the past few years with a strong defense and solid QB play by Wilson, and it seems they are done. Really the Pats is a Ferrari on a free lane in the AFC because there is no QB competition for Brady, it makes the path to the SB way easier and that's the goal, win Superbowls not the draft.

I have no interest in sending him somewhere so unstable that he could wind up with the Broncos in a year....or any other AFC team that has the capacity to be good

the difference between a 1st and a 2nd is small by comparison

interesting that some blubbering now were blubbering how little he was actually worth

Multiple first round picks can't offset the possibility of facing a top QB in the playoffs every year.

If you draft well, they absolutely can. In fact, they can neutralize a top QB or even eliminate the possibility that you'll face one.
