Texans Potentially a Trade Partner with Patriots For Boutte?

The max we could get as a compensatory pick would be 3rd round if he gets a big contract and is a big contributor, makes the Pro-Bowl etc (the league isn't fully clear on their formula) so yes it is potentially higher but probably unlikely we'd see more than 4th or 5th. I'd rather keep him this season if that's all we can muster.

They actually did explicitly state it in the most recent CBA. It's based first and foremost on contract value, with minor adjustments for play time and All-Pro status (not Pro Bowl).

To fetch a 3 (in 2028) he'd need to make >$20M a year.

I'll remind the class why playing the game like Madden won't work in real life.

The Pats traded Moss early in the 2010 season for a 3rd round pick. They now lost their only deep/outside threat, but nobody noticed because the Pats offense averaged 32 PPG and they went 14-2. Once the playoffs came around, they forgot how to play offense because Rex Ryan realized the Pats can't throw to the outside. He took away the middle and dared Tom to attack Revis and Cromartie. The Jets held them in check and pulled off a massive upset.

Oh and the Pats ended up with Ryan Mallett with the Moss pick. I'll take the proven player for one more season over a draft pick all day.

The Pats have a huge advantage at WR and weakening their depth for absolutely no reason is something bad teams do. I'm not the biggest fan of Boutte, but he's a solid complementary player who has a good relationship with Maye. Defenses won't be able to sleep on the outside as Boutte has caught them several times in 2025. Also, this isn't Madden where my team stays healthy for as long as I like.

We need our & WR's. Surely, we shouldn't be considering a 4th for Boutee or a 6th for Pop. NOT!

The situation has changed little. I think it likely think it likely that one of the two will be traded, most likely Boutte.

Vrabel will continue to look at the offers. If Vrabel does indeed really like Chism, both could be traded.

I’m not opposed to trading Boutte to the Texans, but they would have to pay a premium for him.

If I am Boutte, I don’t want to traded to the Texans. I don’t trust CJ Stroud. Not a good place to go in a contract year. I am not sure the Texans will give Boutte a long term deal with Higgins coming back next year. He would likely be a one year rental in his contract year. And I don’t know if Boutte will be nearly as good without Maye.

Yeah they are definitely shopping him (somewhat like Bourne last year but at half the salary) but I expect it has to be the right price to the right team (non-AFC ideally) for it to happen.

If it's only a 5th or a 4th I say keep him - Doubs is technically our WR2 but he can play all over the field so I can see Brown, Boutte and Doubs out on the field at the same time making things tough for Ds. If it's a trade for a decent LB I'd do that straight up.
Possibility. I’m on the side that Hollins will be our 3rd or 4th WR. Everyone always sleeps on him but he’s always out there with the 1’s.

We could absolutely get by without him, however....
Injuries happen all the time.
One bad injury week and all of sudden people wouldn't be so happy about the 5th or 6th they got for him.

If a team believed Boutte would save their season, why in the world would we get rid of a guy that good?
Because there is a log jam at the position with other receivers ahead of him. You don't field a basket ball team with 5 forwards.

Well old fart, I am not a son. Second, no we don't start with a #1. You are utterly delusional. It amazes be just how far out there some of you are. Were you one of the ones calling for firsts for Joe Milton too? I bet you were. hahahaha.
ROFL. You when someone is desperate for something and you have it...you get to start it where you want to. I wouldn't expect you do understand that. Don't bother replying, it won't respond to any more of your posts regarding this subject.

I haven't heard any news of them running 3 receiver sets in preseason with Brown Boutte and Doubs. Wouldn't they need to work on that at least a little in the preseason? Or is that going to be a top secret game plan to start the season where AJB and Doubs serve as decoys to draw coverage so Boutte can be the focal piece of the offense working contested catches down the sidelines?

No. Please don't trade boutte. They'd get back a 5th rounder. **** that. Hard.

Why limit the packages that josh can dial up? See this dumbassery happen every year. Boutte and drake have chemistry and hes one of the few WRS the pats actually draft that did well, going back 40 years.
AJB and Doubs are building chemistry with Maye and will be better receivers in this offense.

1) Which of our lock receivers have done worse than expected since camp started?
Brown? Doubs? Hollins? Williams?

2) Barring injuries, how many reps should the #5 WR get? the #6? My personal answer is ZERO. Eight receivers in enough (4 WR's, 2 TE's, 2 RB's).

3) How many WR's should be active, given the we have Henry, Riarden and RB's as receivers, plus having a FB? For me, 4 is enough.
========
LET'S BE REAL

Vrabel signed Brown to be our #1, replacing Diggs and decided that Diggs should move on.
Vrabel acquired Doubs to replace Boutte (choosing to pay Doubs instead of extending Boutte.
Vrabel is continuing to believe that Williams will be part of the WR corps for another year or two.
Vrabel thought that Hollins would be an inexpensive way to help the Offense for 1-3 years. He was so right and will likely extend Hollins.

All else is secondary. We have our 4 WR's for at least 2 years.

Sure, we want insurance. Sure, we want to develop future backups. Perhaps, for Vrabel, Chism fills both roles and is a roster player. Perhaps, Chism can compete for the developmental role while being on the Practice Squad.

If Chism isn't the answer as the roster backup, perhaps the answer is Douglas. Also, perhaps he is potential #5 in 2027.

Perhaps, if Boutte can't get us much now, then we'll simply wait until the trade deadline, or even have him as a minor part of the Offense for the season.

4?
How many times did a team have less than 5 WRs on the active gameday roster last year?
I genuinely don't know.
5-6 seems to be the norm, don't think you want as little as 4 very often.

But there isn’t. He is one of the 3 best. Behind him are a journeyman a guy who has failed 3 straight years and a second year player
