Patriots Injury News Mike Reiss Provides Clarity on Jacas' Absence

I guarantee this happens a lot around the NFL with 1st and 2nd round picks. Players and coaches know pretty early on. Edelman has mentioned this on his podcasts that he saw players come in at WR who he knew was going to be busts.

It does seem that at best we have a player with character issues.

It seems likely that something was undisclosed or hidden from the patriots.

I don't think we can conclude this just yet.

I don't think it was apparent early on that something wasn't adding up. Media attempts to attribute it to 2nd round contract disputes like for 2025 were just lazy.

Right now this goes under the heading of "messy". Not sure how much to attribute to player/agent vs. the team.

Hoping it doesn't fet worse than "messy", and that it gets resolved prior to TC, without lingering effects or enmity.

Have seen this story many times before and it never ends well.
Its sunk cost now.
He is on the path to being a complete bust.
Multiple injuries and a contract dispute before ever setting foot on practice field.
Another in a long line of patriots second round draft pick busts

To be clear, I have seen nothing that suggests that Jacas won't be a solid backup rookie and perhaps a future major contributor.

For me, he is our #4 EDGE player for now, reasonable for a mid-second rookie who had an injury treated before his rookie camp.
JONES, PONDER, LANDRY, JACAS
with lots of folks fighting for #5, and while we all hope for a trade.

Holy **** dude, what an incredible logic leap with no evidence.
We just speculate here.

I have no problem with kids with character issues. Coaches can deal with them if they exist. This is nothing "incredible". It is very liekly to be fully worked out before August.

Jacas needed a procedure. Perhaps, the team knew all about this and chose not to disclose anything and chose not to make any statement about the signing and contract. Perhaps. We may or may find out anything.

Back to your old ways Sam. Must be quite a heavy burden.

Hopefully nothing more than "messy". We don't want it to get to the "ugly" stage.

I like your glass half-full view.

If Jacas had a 1.59 10-split in early April with a bad foot, knee, and hammy, imagine what he can do when fully healthy!
The huge pressure of draft process must have been a factor here given it is an extended job interview with millions on the line. The hamstring injury likely really messed not only with the draft process, but also the timing of the knee scope which has then knocked onto affecting pre camp participation and even his contract signing as well.

It is interesting to compare another player who needed a knee scope during the draft process, KC Concepcion. He was able to run the drills at the combine on the 27th Feb which enabled him to have the scope on the 12th March. Because he done what he wanted to do at the combine he could just interview at his proday, and attend 30 visits including the Pats late March, where teams had to opportunity to check on his progress if they wished. Concepcion was able to fully participate in all OTAs and rookie camp with the Browns.

Jacas on the other hand couldn't do any testing or drills at the combine except the bench due to the hamstring. Then he also missed his proday on the 12 March as well. He finally did his private workout on the 2nd April just weeks before the draft, and I wonder if it was so close to the draft at that point the scope may have even been post draft. So timeline wise any knee scope was probably somewhere in the range of 4-8 weeks after Concepcion's and this really pushed recovery timeline out to miss rookie minicamp early May and unfortunately OTAs in May/June.

He was pivoting and twisting without issue on the videos so hopefully should be signed soon, camp is a month away and unless he has a setback he likely should be a full participant at camp.

You said "At best, he has character issues"

Every coach, every teammate he played with, has said the exact opposite.
Not to mention, there's zero indication that he has 'character issues'.

It's beyond speculation, it's an accusation without evidence.

Go back to starting 50 threads about the 5th string guard for roster spot 90, please.

wow
before OTA's every coach, player, opponent that had any contact with Jacas spoke glowingly about him.
there is not even one shred of evidence that would lead anyone to think otherwise, including in the Reiss article.
he wont sign a contract until he passes a physical
he wont get onto the field with out a contract that states "if he were to injure", he would be guaranteed his rookie contract.
he is not physically ready to get onto the field.
his deal will be signed once he passes
the injury/recovery that is keeping him off the field apparently was routine, even minor. he looks like he will return soon.
if he has longer term health/injury issues, it is pure speculation to think the Pats were unaware, or it was with held from them.

Threadkiller.

Does anyone else here remember what you were like at that age? What you would have been like if given all that money and attention and adulation? I know I would have been at best confused, if not worse. His brain isn't even fully wired for a few more years; he doesn't even have a complete operator's manual yet. Whatever this kid is doing is undoubtedly primarily about the instructions he's getting from the adult professionals in his life. Let's give him a chance to figure out life.
