Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
If we pick in the top 10 (extremely unlikely), one pick isn’t going to save us.
The first rd is littered with misses top to bottom every year.
So not only are you suggesting top 10 is possible, you completely ignore the fact that top 10 picks bust too.

If we trade that 1st round pick and its in the top 10 then the AJ trade would be a complete disaster.

I think Philadelphia cares more about value than perception.
I’m thinking the right deal is a 3 and a 5. Philly has no leverage.
No way AB J is dealt for that.

That is exactly my point. If PHI was still negotiating and wanted more, they could leak the deal, same for NE and Brown's agent.

HOWEVER, if the dealing is over and reading for signature, then no party has incentive to leak the deal.
KC is rumored to be looking for a WR.

The anticipation.

Think we're going have another 136 pages going??
At least
It’s LaCafora so we will see

I also edited the report from MSN to yahoo sports. Showed up better

What does that what to do with veracity of claim that “people here say Boutte is better than Brown”?

I thought it was self explanatory: "better than" is dependent on availability. He's a far superior receiver than Boutte, but has a significantly higher risk of missing time. There's a real/significant chance that Boutte, based on availability, could have a more productive year(s) than Brown.

You think that Brown is a run blocker?
Consensus on the web is that he is a very good run blocker for a WR, with some key Eagles' runs helped by him sealing the perimeter. He certainly takes pride in his blocking.

An AI:

A.J. Brown is a very good run blocker for a wide receiver—above average at the position thanks to his elite size, strength, and physical mentality. At 6'1" and 226 lbs, Brown brings lineman-like power and toughness to perimeter and downfield blocks. He's not a "move the pile" guy like an offensive tackle, but among WRs he's reliable at engaging defenders, sustaining blocks, and creating lanes on outside runs, sweeps, or when the Eagles pull guards and ask receivers to wall off the edge.

Key Strengths as a Run BlockerPhysicality and effort: Brown is willing to throw his body around and finish blocks. Eagles fans and analysts have pointed out specific plays where he seals the edge or makes key downfield blocks for Saquon Barkley (e.g., Barkley's long runs where Brown was credited with a crucial block that he himself downplayed as "just doing my job").

I loved Brandin Cooks. If he hadn’t have gotten that concussion early in the SB vs Philly, I think the Pats would’ve won that one. He was a huge difference maker all year, especially since we lost Edelman in the preseason to a knee injury.
Why tf would he try to hurdle?? Smdh Also, that Houston game winner was legendary.

Rumor is the deal is done and it is a 2028 first. Not sure if that is the case. But a 2028 first is the equivalent of a 2027 second rounder. It is far less than the Broncos gave up for Waddle (Waddle and the Broncos' 4th for a 1st, 3rd, and 4th rounder) and about the same of what the Bills gave up for Moore (DJ Moore and a 5th for the Bills' 2nd). At least in the short term, I would take Brown over those two receivers.

But I still wouldn't be surprised if there was a pick swap in addition in the Pats' favor like the Pats giving up a sixth rounder for an Eagles' fifth rounder.

I know many won't agree. But if it is a 2028 first, Wolf did a good job. The 2027 draft is supposed to be historic so I would rather give up a 2028 first than a 2027 second. And considering the original asking price was a first and a third or better, that is good value.

If we trade that 1st round pick and its in the top 10 then the AJ trade would be a complete disaster.

If the Pats' first round draft pick is in the top 10 in 2028, there are a lot more things that are a disaster with this team over trading for AJ Brown. Wolf and Vrabel would be on the hot seat whether the trade went down or not.

If this is true, this trade is going to polarizing.
Not exactly a surprise. This is exactly what the trade has been speculated to be for weeks. Other than here of course.

The draft next year is supposed to be historic. The Pats could potentially get a 2028 first round pick in trading down in the first or second round next year and still have a stellar draft depending who is on the board and whether they can still get the players they are targeting after trading down. Say they are drafting in the late 20s and there are CB who dropped out of the top ten to there and there are still a bunch of really good edge rusher left, the Pats could trade down ten spots and get a first in 2028 from a team likely being in the top 10 that year and still draft an edge rusher who could get double digit sacks every year.

Obviously, many here don't want to give up anything to get Brown. IMO, a 2028 is a good deal. Someone worried that the pick might be a top 10 pick. If so, we probably would be moving on from several management folks, including Vrabel.

2026
We had been talking about a 2nd and a 4th

2027
We had been discussing a 2nd plus more compensation

2028
A 2028 first is better than either of the above choice.
I do expect a trade of lower choices to be included as you noted.

Yes, people are overlooking the run blocking which he is tremendous at. This will be big for them.

The team can put out a formation with:
- 1 WR (Brown)
- 2 TE (Henry & Hill)
- 1 FB (Gilliam)
- 1 RB (Henderson)

This will look like a pure power running play, until they send Henderson out wide as the Z, put Henry in the slot, and then move Gilliam up into a TE spot with both TEs running a route. Now they have 5 guys running routes. Then the next play they pivot back to the traditional setup and go max power run with no player running a route, all with the same personnel. When paired with the hurry up, you can be lethal.

I am no draftnick, but from all I hear is 2027 is supposed to be one of the best drafts of all time and 2028 could be as bad as this year or worse.

And another thing not giving up draft picks in 2026 or 2027 allows the Pats to build a strong foundation of young players that will be maturing by 2028 and the absolute need for a first round pick diminishes. That is why the Rams have been able to trade away so many high picks and be competitive. They have the strong foundation that they can afford to trade away for immediate impact free agents.

And when they are going to pound the rock with occasional play action
2 Wr’s (Brown and Hollins)
1 TE (Hill)
1 FB (Gilliam)
1 RB (Rham)
