Patriots Rumor A.J. Brown trade rumors heat up - Should Patriots get him?

A report indicating the Patriots are potentially in the market for this player, or have expressed or plant to express interest.
I am no draftnick, but from all I hear is 2027 is supposed to be one of the best drafts of all time and 2028 could be as bad as this year or worse.
2027 is expecting to be very good.

Projecting 2028 this far out is a fool's errand.

If it’s a first I’m “ok”
If it’s a second I’m happy
If it’s anything less than that it’s a steal

But part of me wonders if AJ brown is worth more than resigning Diggs and keeping your first?

I like diggs back for however long he lasts & as a mentor but he’s at the cliff. When he falls off he falls off.

The AJ pickup resets is for 2-4 more years at the old WR position.

If we trade that 1st round pick and its in the top 10 then the AJ trade would be a complete disaster.
Again, if we picked in the top 10 there would have to be major issues and injuries.
And again, you really think we should/shouldn't make a deal based on worst case scenario of ifs and buts?
Come one now, that's not how you run a team.

Sure. But odds are good that 2028 will not be as good as 2027. You rarely get two back to back stacked drafts especially in the NIL era.

Not exactly a surprise. This is exactly what the trade has been speculated to be for weeks. Other than here of course.
There are still people on this board who will be upset if a 1st is given up. While I'd rather have it be a 2nd round pick, the Pats are making the right move swinging for the fences. I've always preached building through the draft, but there are times like this where you need a now player rather than hoping your draft pick work out.

The Pats emerged as one of the best teams in the AFC last season and their Super Bowl window is now wide open. With the team they have now, you have to make a move to maximize their current window because you don't know if it will ever return. The Packers had a window after the 2010 Super Bowl win, but their team eroded over Rodgers' last 8 years there. The Bills gave Allen an elite WR in Diggs, but the rest of the roster was crap. Their window is not only shut in the AFC, but in their own division. Bills fans will lose their minds when this trade goes down. 49ers had that opportunity to cash in on the roster they built, but rejected brining in Tom Brady in 2020. Their window of seriously contending barely has a crack open at this point. Eagles are going to be severely weakened by this trade and will be a Wild Card exit team at best.

I'm not the biggest fan of AJ Brown and have a concern over his knee(s), but I like how the Pats are being aggressive here. The WR room as it is isn't good enough especially if the O-line struggles.

Im against giving up a 1st in any year
Pats should have drafted some insurance if Philly was hell bent on a 1st they could have gotten in the late 4th and stole skyler bell off of the bills. Bryce lance was drafted in the 130s Kendrick law was taken in the 5th malik benson in the 6th. A young buck to grow with maye. Then keep boutte and maybe sign diggs back on a cheaper deal another year removed from the acl injury. That wouldn't be bad with doubbs addition better oline better TE room.

If this is true, this trade is going to polarizing.

Doesn't matter. The truth is that Boston Sports radio is going to talk **** no matter what decisions they make, and the same people who ***** about everything here are going to continue to ***** about everything. They could win the Super Bowl and the cranks here would complain that it wasn't by enough, or that their opponent had an injury, so it doesn't really count. And the reality is that the only thing that matters in the end is how well he plays, and how that impacts the rest of the team and their season.
Yes, people are overlooking the run blocking which he is tremendous at. This will be big for them.

The team can put out a formation with:
- 1 WR (Brown)
- 2 TE (Henry & Hill)
- 1 FB (Gilliam)
- 1 RB (Henderson)

This will look like a pure power running play, until they send Henderson out wide as the Z, put Henry in the slot, and then move Gilliam up into a TE spot with both TEs running a route. Now they have 5 guys running routes. Then the next play they pivot back to the traditional setup and go max power run with no player running a route, all with the same personnel. When paired with the hurry up, you can be lethal.

They can also go with Doubs, who goes 6'2 210, and Stevenson, who is strong in all areas, run, block, receiving.

And obviously Hollins is a great blocker. Plus Drake himself is a run threat. Lots of options.

I think they will want to be a more rushing oriented team this year based on the personnel who can also be a dynamic passing offense if they need to be.

Consensus on the web is that he is a very good run blocker for a WR, with some key Eagles' runs helped by him sealing the perimeter. He certainly takes pride in his blocking.

An AI:

A.J. Brown is a very good run blocker for a wide receiver—above average at the position thanks to his elite size, strength, and physical mentality. At 6'1" and 226 lbs, Brown brings lineman-like power and toughness to perimeter and downfield blocks. He's not a "move the pile" guy like an offensive tackle, but among WRs he's reliable at engaging defenders, sustaining blocks, and creating lanes on outside runs, sweeps, or when the Eagles pull guards and ask receivers to wall off the edge.

Key Strengths as a Run BlockerPhysicality and effort: Brown is willing to throw his body around and finish blocks. Eagles fans and analysts have pointed out specific plays where he seals the edge or makes key downfield blocks for Saquon Barkley (e.g., Barkley's long runs where Brown was credited with a crucial block that he himself downplayed as "just doing my job").

We will have to agree to disagree that an AI blurb and him saying he had some good blocks qualifies as settling it.

No they aren’t running the offense like that.

2028 1st for an elite WR when the team has Super Bowl aspirations shouldn’t be questioned at all. You can’t keep saying this team is cheap and isn’t serious then when they make a deal to spend money and assets to get back to the Super Bowl be like “they shouldn’t do it”

Sounds familiar. Diggs deactivated his Instagram when he came to NE, and turned it back on once he was released. Apparently he deactivated it a month ago in reality but still.
