Yes if we trade our 2028 1st and get a 3rd rounder back that will take a lot of the sting out of the trade because you at least get a top 100 pick back. Also 2028 is a long ways away and AJB would help us win right now and give Maye his go to receiver for a lot of plays. This also makes all the lesser WRs more effective since AJB will attract a lot of attention from the defense. It will be funny if they trade a 2028 first for him (with something like a 3rd coming back) and he goes on to be extremely productive this year, and again next year or even more so, and they become title contenders yet again... In hindsight trading a first round pick basically 3 drafts away from now would look pretty good at that point.
I realize to many "a first is a first" but the time component is important. A first in 2028 is not the same as a first in 2026. The common logic subtracts a round for each year that passes, so a 2028 first is equal to a 2026 third. While I don't think it's really quite that simple in reality, there's some merit. A 2026 third would've gotten you a player this season who could start, depending on the position. A 2028 first is probably a quality starter, but you won't have him til 3 years from now. In the NFL, typically you want more immediate help as it is a very "what have you done for me lately" league.
We will soon see the details of the compensation but it feels like this is almost inevitable move and right now it's just a bit of public posturing and wrangling on the details before it finally happens.
