The 1st pick in the draft is ONE pick better than the SB winner.

I'm amazed at the salary scale for the NFL picks. $25mill signing bonus for pick #1 down to $12.4mill for pick #10 and down to $5.7 for pick #32 (per Spotrac). Unless there's a generational talent (and I mean real generational not the watered down crap people have been spewing out seemingly every year), if the Pats had a top 3 pick, I'd fully expect them to trade down unless it's MHJr.
If the top player isn't worth it, no one is going to give you value in a trade.

How many 1st half of the 1st round picks have there been and how many of them did he keep? It doesn't seem like there's been many.

I've always been a fan of trading down for more picks. Mainly because it's a crap shoot and more picks gives the team more chances. It also, along with FA pickups, gives the team first look at those players.
5. He hasn't traded down except for one or two slots.

Seymour, Ty Warren, Mayo, Mac and Gonzalez.

If you extend this to pick 21, the results are even better with only one bust and some All-Pros (heck, we even traded UP to that slot once):

Graham, Wilfork, Solder, Chandler Jones, Maroney (bust).

Mac was the right pick at 15 even though I hate him now.

This is a stellar drafting record for the first 21 of the draft: 10 picks, 1 HOFer, 5 All-Pros (Seymour, Warren, Mayo, Chandler Jones, Wilfork), and 1 guy headed to superstardom (Gonzalez).

He will be on another team.
No he won’t. He’s been figured out. Make him throw the ball down the field and he won’t. Put him in a pressure situation and he turns the ball over.
That can’t be fixed.

My biggest question about QBs is a simple one. WTF happened to Mac Jones? He was decent at first but got progressively worse each season since.
Part of it was that we had him on training wheels year one and he was only asked to game manage and now he's not. Part of it was 3 different coordinators. Part of it is the line and receivers are bad and limit his chances so his mistakes are amplified because he doesn't get as many good snaps as most QB's in the league. Part of it is that all of that combined severely screwed up his development and confidance and now he doesn't trust the plays and players.

It is the OPPORTUNITY to turn that one pick into one or more great players which is what makes it so valuable.
Absolutely but after that it's not much difference, if you have a shot at a generational talent or can turn it into 2-3 really good players you've taken advantage of it.

Archstanton laughs at my every post, he laughed at me earlier in the season when I said “Mac sucked” and people were still arguing he was good and the team was bad.

Now Mac is a quivering jellyfish, is he agreeing when he laughs or disagreeing, he doesn’t say anything, he just laughs… odd?
Lots of weird stalking around here.

wow, this is mental gymnastics to the fullest on the draft - would you rather a snake draft? Yes, the team needs a qb...But I would have no qualms, say Zappe starts the rest of the year and goes 3-3 or 4-2, going with Zappe next year and dedicating every ****ing pick to offense - receiver, tight end, qb, line and no running backs. drafting a qb high is not a fool proof recipe for success.
I agee that building a team full of quality players is more important than « a QB at all cost ». If a Mahomes is there, you take him. But if there are doubts, don’t reach for QB.

SF is a top 5 team in the League. It’s because they have pro bowlers everywhere. Not because Purdy is prime Elway..

I am dreaming of someone stupid calling NE for a CHI vs Carolina deal !

And if that special kicker didn’t miss two field goals when pumped and jack was here … William and Tommy would never have been here , and the last 20 years never happened. Ahhh … alternate universes …
Pumped, jacked… I have no idea what this ^ means.

100% correct … AND the possibility of a bust that high is very hard to recover from. That’s why trading down and getting more picks is the way to build the roster.
Depends on the draft.

If BB traded a boatload of picks to move up to # 1 in 2000 and take Brady, it would be considered the genius move of all time. The Browns and Bears passed on Mahomes who fell to 10th.
There is ample of proof of other teams for years drafting top 15, and yet it doesn’t relate to wins .. or dare I say Super Bowls …I’m going out on a limb and say the qbs drafted in the top 15 over the last say 20 years … 50% of them were complete busts. Not even a .500 winning record. Lots of draft capital wasted on one guy. Definitely a crap shoot
Some drafts are just full of Bust QBs. The same BS Artists will be painting this QB draft like its 1983.

The first pick was Bryce Young, the second was CJ Stroud… do you think Houston is full of regret they didn’t lose more?

Besides what everyone else has pointed out, the worst team gets the first pick on days 2 and 3 of the draft. Getting extra time to re-set is another advantage.

hmm

I would note that the result is NOT because they don't chase QB's high in the draft. In the Jones draft, it was a QB no matter what.

There are 32 sets of collective eyes of the beholders to perceive trash vs treasure, so it's all relative.

They would be if Carolina was an intelligent, well run organization who let football people make football decisions instead of venture capitalists.

I don’t need a Super Bowl contending team next season I need to see a team that’s moving in the right direction. Give us something to look forward to.

Pumped, jacked… I have no idea what this ^ means.
When Pete Carrol was here .. (his saying ..pumped and jacked) … vinatari missed two field goals in his last season. Had Pete not been fired .. the last 20 years never would have happened

Sure… it wasn’t “weapons.”
Weapons have been an issue since 2019. The greatest QB ever was *****ing about them and they've gotten worse since. But everyone knew that Cam was washed anyways. The team that drafted him released him. Are you pretending this is some mutually exclusive discussion?

I know your brain is smaller than a rodent's ****, but try to use some semblance of intelligence.

So I spent my afternoon looking at the past drafts from 2000 on until last year. Checked only for top 15 picks in the draft… seems like people here see them as probably most important cornerstone of building a team. So I did team , how many picks in the top 15 over the last 24 years… and how many super bowls won.
