Here’s what Jaylinn Hawkins had to say to reporters on July 28, 2025.

On his first week of training camp and his overall thoughts on the defense:

“Oh, man, I feel like it’s been going pretty good. We’re out here grinding every day, taking it one day at a time and just executing and winning the day. We do something new every day. We try to hustle. We try to do everything, stick to our standard day in and day out, and just keep setting the bar day after day and keep going on this uphill path that we want to keep going on.”

On what’s new schematically with this defense to what they were doing last year:

“I would say, man, I can’t answer that question. But what I could tell you is, man, with everybody that we got in our room and everybody that we got, we’re gelling. We’re all coming together, we’re playing together.  We’re trying to form our culture and instill that in our play, play in and play out.”

On if there’s some conceptual carry-over:

“I would say just with everybody who came in, new or who’s been here. Like I said, man, we all getting to know each other. We’re gelling well. We’re getting in communication with each other on and off the field because that’s what it’s about, man. When we all gelling and we’re all playing as one unit and then we understand our goals and we understand what we’re trying to do, we execute, playing and play out. And it’s good when we do that.”

On if this is one of the deeper safety rooms he’s been a part of and what are the different flavors each guy brings:

“Man, I love our room. I love it. Everybody that we got, we all help each other from old to young. We all in here with one goal, and that is to get better, to get the ball, and to play hard, and do what safety’s doing in the back end. So we embrace each other, man, from on and off the field, from, like I said, hanging out off the field and hanging out on the field. You want to hang out when you’re on the field, meaning you want to have fun when you’re out there. And when we do that together and we’re on the same page and we’re aligned, assigned, and do our fundamentals and technique, it’s a good sight.”

On what, if anything he’s learned about the team through one week:

“You said it’s the early days, man. But I love our team. I love what we got. I love what Coach is instilling in us. I love the culture that he’s bringing to this team. Every day is a new chapter, and every day is a new day to get better. So, regardless of what you did the day before, it’s a new day to raise the bar.  So that’s one thing that I love. And that’s one thing that I love about our team is that we have that mentality. We don’t hang our hats on things that was good before and just try to stay afloat. We’re trying to really get better. Like I said, when you keep doing that, these small wins be adding up. And so it’s really important. But yeah, man, I love the direction we’re going in.”

On turnovers and what the preparation is that goes into being able to make those plays:

“Just align, design, and technique. Those three things are very important. When you’re aligned, when we’re all on communication, we all get what’s going on. When we’re assigned, when we understand what’s going on, our technique and fundamentals is really important. Things happen. Those plays come. Things like that come. You don’t got to go out there and make something happen or try to do something crazy. I mean, of course, trust your instincts to make it happen. But those three things are really important. When we all together, we all on the same boat, plays get made.”

On if he’s gotten used to Foxborough yet:

“Yeah, I mess with Foxborough, man. I actually moved closer this year. Last year, I was staying in the city. Now, I’m a little bit closer out here, man. I like it, man. I like everything that it’s bringing. Like I said last year, I still love the food. I love going out to eat. I love just the area. Even, I haven’t got the chance to go up to the Cape, down there, the beaches, Plum Island, and kick it. But I love the area, man. It’s a good area, and I love it.”

On the best meal he’s had since he’s been here:

“I love them hot lobster rolls. Those are fire. Those are very good. lobster rolls, some good clam chowder. That’s good. You can’t beat that. I like the lobster roll from Salty Girl. Salty Girl, and I love… I got a whole list, but I love the lobster from Salty Girl.  Hold on, it’s called Salty Girl, right? Salty Girl? That’s what it’s called?”

With the E, Salty Girl.

“Okay, just double-checking.”

Are you doing the mayo or butter?

“I’ll do the butter.”
