I thought it would be fun to look back several decades at Pat’s drafts.

1996, 30 years ago, it was a franchise changing draft.

1) Terry Glenn, WR Ohio State. Won offensive rookie of the year, his rookie stats were literally record breaking. Great pick getting an elite weapon for a young Drew Bledsoe. Helped lead the Pats to the SB that year.

2) Lawyer Milloy, Safety Washington. Would become a key defender who helped us win our first SB in 2001.

3) Tedy Bruschi, Linebacker Arizona. I loved Tedy, probably one of my top 5 favorite players of all time. He was so clutch player with a timely INT, or sack, or fumble recovery. Along with Milloy, gave the Pats some swagger on defense.

2006, I was jumping for joy during this draft, boy was I wrong.

1) Laurence Maroney, RB Minnesota. What to say about Maroney, had a few solid years, but wound up being an unpopular player. Did a little too much dancing behind the line instead of being decisive.

2) Chad Jackson, WR Florida. Wow, I thought we got our stud receiver, he was a combine star, but nothing else after that. 14 career catches, yikes.

4) Stephen Gostkowski, K Memphis. He wound up being our best pick in the 2006 draft. Excellent kicker who had an excellent, long career with the Pats.

2016, Solid draft, gave us some players that helped us win a SB in 2016, and some questionable picks as well.

2) Cyrus Jones, CB Alabama. Just a bad pick, bad player.

3) Joe Thuney, G NC State. GREAT pick, he’s been a fantastic Olineman for a decade.

4) Malcolm Mitchell, WR Georgia. Really had a fine rookie season, and because of knee injuries, never played another NFL game. I wish he could’ve stayed healthy.

6 Elandon Roberts, LB Houston. Very serviceable LB for 10 years in the NFL, 4 years with the Pats, winning 2 SBs. Considering it was a 6th round pick, good pick.

6 Ted Karras, G Illinois. Another good 6th round pick who played for the Pats for 5 years and won 2 SBs. He was a good rotational Olineman, and sometime starter.

Just an interesting walk down memory lane.

Malcom was big in the SB
I forgot till I watched a replay of the game back a few months ago.

Makes him a worthwhile pick IMO. If you help win a SB, you were worth it. That’s all there is. Winning.

Yep. Guys like Antwan Harris and J.R. Redmond did very little in their careers. But forcing the fumble shortly before halftime of the Super Bowl and getting out bounds late to give Brady time is more than enough for me.
