Patriots Player Departure Official 2023 Patriots Roster Cutdown Thread (final roster in opening post)

"Every down back" means being strong enough to do 1st and 2nd down runs between the tackles, and a good enough pass catcher to play on third down. It has nothing to do with playing a whole game, or even a whole quarter. It is about versatility, not endurance. And you know it. Stop trying to be cute.
Evidently you didn’t watch him play last year. I hope he does well, my expectations are low.

If there are six players on the 53 from a previous year's draft, that's a good draft - and yes, players traded for other players of course count.

Winovich brought in Wilson, for example.
You draft to fill holes on your team (other than one or two BPA picks); those holes change over time as new players become available who fit what you're trying to do (Zeke, for example), as others develop (Jennings and possibly Perkins are late bloomers, yes); and as others don't step up (Thornton, so far).

I wonder how many of any team's 53 at the end of a year were drafted by that team.
Hilarious logic here.

This happens every year . The answer should be…whoever created the thread in the 1st post should list all the cuts…but it rarely or never happens.

But this helps…

I have it updated with every cut I've read about.. Still waiting to finish them

Every down backs? Did you happen to watch any Cowboys games last year? Zeke Is not an every down back anymore.
Of course he is. What down do you think he can’t play on?

First, I think Breer's full of crap, and if he's not, the Pats should part ways ASAP and do an injury settlement. JJSS hasn't had a peep about a knee problem in camp, and led the team in practice catches.

I can see Thornton, Reiff, and maybe Anderson, if he's not ready, or maybe Bolden if it's more than concussion. Or maybe Onwenu (doubt it), but you can only put 3 on in-season IR.
That could be about JJ. I don't know, but it could explain some of the "surprising" cuts.

Then Harris should be easy to get back.
I think Sow or Mafi, Boutte or Douglas, maybe J Andrews would have all been scooped up. Can't afford to lose those guys.
Harris will be on the practice squad unless we find a rob cut elsewhere we like better

They didn't CUT two 4th rounders from last year. They cut one and traded the other for a position of need. And there is no guarantee that Harris' playing days with the Pats are done.
Reacting the way you are at the initial cuts when you know that the roster isn't remotely close to being set begs just how well you've been paying attention at cutdowns the last 5 years. Because this isn't new.

I was merely pointing out how our rookies from last year had seemed to trend since late last season (before Jack Jones got into trouble).

It doesn't matter if Strong was traded or cut. They gave up on him at a position they have no depth. If he were Mapu or Roberts I don't think the trade would be made. JMO it was a trade of two players who were going to be cut.

I thought we had a draft last year, like I feel we have this year, but I hope this year's turns out better than what we've seen so far.

Do you feel differently?

So Bolden and McDermott are both gone for the year:

The Patriots placed DB Cody Davis and DL Trey Flowers on the Physically Unable to Perform List and CB Isaiah Bolden and OL Conor McDermott on injured reserve.

Reiff and Thornton are prospects for IR now to come back later; maybe Anderson too. Too many on OL and they are clearly light a QB and a RB although can get by for a while with some PS elevations.

I think Trent is still very much part of the solution but I can't imagine paying someone 11 mil for the results we've been getting. I'm aware he was only part of it for like 20 snaps but that's part of the problem too no one seems to have been available this summer.
Trent better do much better than last year when he had a ridiculous amount of penalties….seemed lazy and had low initiative…..can’t have any half asss this year

Last year's draft exceeded my draft-day expectations. Hated a guard in the 1st, didn't like Thornton, was shocked by how good Jones and Jones turned out, liked Strong, never had any opinion on the others.

I thought Perkins made it? That's what early posts were claiming. Or was it just that he was spotted at practice?
Edit: Perkins is listed on the 53 on the tweet above.

But Isaiah Bolden isn't. IR, I would guess.
