Patriots Player Departure Official 2023 Patriots Roster Cutdown Thread (final roster in opening post)

Probably not an every down back, but he is an ANY down back, in that you can use him for traditional runs, short yardage, or 3rd down (good pass protector, good enough catching the ball). Stevenson should get the bulk of the snaps anyway.
That I can agree with.

Every down backs? Did you happen to watch any Cowboys games last year? Zeke Is not an every down back anymore.
So he can't play on 3rd downs now?

Why can't I find a list of those who have been cut?

This happens every year . The answer should be…whoever created the thread in the 1st post should list all the cuts…but it rarely or never happens.

But this helps…

I am now getting a bit annoyed. I can't even get it on Twitter. The hell.

He can play in the schemes for ANY down, any yardage. That makes him an "every down" back, though not necessarily a "bell cow" anymore.

I expected one of the RBs to pop.

It's not that Jones or Thornton can't still be good players, but they have been trending down.

Two 4th rounders from the previous year is a lot to be cut.
They didn't CUT two 4th rounders from last year. They cut one and traded the other for a position of need. And there is no guarantee that Harris' playing days with the Pats are done.
Reacting the way you are at the initial cuts when you know that the roster isn't remotely close to being set begs just how well you've been paying attention at cutdowns the last 5 years. Because this isn't new.

Where can we see the current roster after cuts?
Are they keeping 12 OL?

Seriously? The roster is going to Change WEDNESDAY when they place players onto IR and re-sign players. So what does it matter?

So he can't play on 3rd downs now?
He can’t play every down. Keep up and stop trying to be cute, you know exactly what I meant.

And they could be looking at both Thornton and JJSS going to IR. As well as Reiff and whomever else.

This is not anything new. BB has done this previously.

Ameer Speed? Keep him so that other teams nake their commitments, then waive him to lessen the likelihood he gets poached.

First, I think Breer's full of crap, and if he's not, the Pats should part ways ASAP and do an injury settlement. JJSS hasn't had a peep about a knee problem in camp, and led the team in practice catches.

I can see Thornton, Reiff, and maybe Anderson, if he's not ready, or maybe Bolden if it's more than concussion. Or maybe Onwenu (doubt it), but you can only put 3 on in-season IR.

I never saw Webb, Davis, Bolden, Bledsoe, Speed, Munson on the cut list...
Are we literally carrying a team full of ST-only players?

At the point you wrote this message, Bledsoe and Munson had been Cut.
Cody Davis REMAINS on the PUP list. So I have no clue why you are lamenting about him.

Bolden and Speed were on the Initial 53 and nothing had been mentioned about Webb (who has since been cut)

Why is it depressing? A good draft is 3 guys. We still have 5, plus Wheatley who Strong was traded for, so 6. Looks like 4 to 6 will stick which is a fabulous draft.
Lol we’re counting Wheatley as part a ”fabulous draft”? we didn’t draft him and we’ve never seen him play a down.

I go to take a quick hour nap and wake up to this sht? We have no backup QB... smart.

We still employ Kirk Ferentz's son even though he almost single-handedly got Zappe fired... smart.

Ronnie Perkins still has a job... smart.

Meanwhile they're supposed to be down to 53 by 4 PM, wasn't that the rule?

We should cut Mac also, that way we can have no QB's and Ferentz will still have a job.
Because you're counting Cody Davis who is still on the PUP for 1.

Maybe 90 minute naps would be more helpful?

If there are six players on the 53 from a previous year's draft, that's a good draft - and yes, players traded for other players of course count.

Winovich brought in Wilson, for example.
You draft to fill holes on your team (other than one or two BPA picks); those holes change over time as new players become available who fit what you're trying to do (Zeke, for example), as others develop (Jennings and possibly Perkins are late bloomers, yes); and as others don't step up (Thornton, so far).

I wonder how many of any team's 53 at the end of a year were drafted by that team.

He can’t play every down. Keep up and stop trying to be cute, you know exactly what I meant.

"Every down back" means being strong enough to do 1st and 2nd down runs between the tackles, and a good enough pass catcher to play on third down. It has nothing to do with playing a whole game, or even a whole quarter. It is about versatility, not endurance. And you know it. Stop trying to be cute.
